What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auditor position at District of Columbia Courts?
This position is located in the Auditing Branch of the Probate Division of the District of Columbia Superior Court. The Auditing Branch is responsible for auditing fiduciary accounts, reviewing and processing fee petitions, motions, objections, inventories and responses/replies that may be associated with accounts and fee petitions. Audits and reviews may be financial, compliance, operational or a combination of the aforementioned.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field supplemented by 24 semester hours of accounting with at least three (3) years of experience performing audits or preparing accounts (e.g. fiduciary, tax, business and/or investments) from source documentation.
Education Substitution:
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field supplemented by 24 semester hours of accounting with at least two (2) years of experience performing audits or preparing accounts (e.g. fiduciary, tax, business and/or investments) from source documentation.
Certification Substitution:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a minimum of three (3) years of experience auditing or preparing accounts from source documentation.
- Certified Forensic Accountant (CRFAC) and a minimum of three (3) years of experience auditing or preparing accounts from source documentation.
Preferred:
One year or more of experience auditing or preparing fiduciary accounts which includes investment.
Knowledge of judicial systems and procedures, specifically Probate matters.

Responsibilities:
Brief Description of Duties:
- Audits fiduciary accounts assuring compliance with applicable accounting principles, governing rules, and statutes.
- Reviews, analyzes, and processes motions, objections, responses to objections, replies, etc. pertaining to accounts and fee petitions of attorneys and lay fiduciaries and make recommendations on the resolution of the filing for the court’s consideration.
- Confers with fiduciaries and their counsel in writing and orally in connection with the account during the audit process.
- Serves as Duty Auditor, assisting the public on auditing branch-related filings and reviews eFiled or paper on demand filings.
- Compiles and completes statistical and status reports involving caseload assignments.
- Communicates findings and reports effectively both orally and in writing.
Salary : $78,592 - $102,166
