JOB SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Manager position is vital to assuring production processes are controlled, running optimally, and continually improved to reduce costs and or improve quality. This role is expected to lead with a proactive mindset of “how can we help?”; foster a team focused on safely manufacturing quality products to meet delivery commitments; and assure alignment with company priorities. This position must drive compliance with quality, regulatory, safety. The Manufacturing Manager will be responsible for production; shipping and receiving; and safety.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
Safety Collaborate throughout the organization to promote a culture of safety, ensure a safe work environment and safe processes for all team members.
- Ensure safety training procedures are conducted per regulations and company requirements
- Enforce safety requirements
- Maintain all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to review of new or changed production materials and periodic review of current processes to assure safety.
- Oversee safety compliance effort by managing related resources, including consultants or 3rd party safety compliance providers
Production and Process Control Ensure manufacturing processes are safe, efficient and effective to yield quality outcomes; work to continually improve.
- Oversee all Manufacturing and Shipping & Receiving operations
- Assure Quality at the source; ensure equipment, tools & fixtures, and processes are qualified and when appropriate validated to assure product specifications are achieved; coordinate with Engineering and Quality as appropriate; understand product requirements before production begins and assure that quality can be and is achieved.
- Oversee and lead Manufacturing’s collaboration efforts with Engineering and Quality to ensure a smooth transition of new products or new specifications, as well as ensuring schedules are understood and achievable.
- Focus on the process, promote error proofing and pursue perfection through continuous improvement; drive cost savings and capacity gains.
- Understand manufacturing capabilities to ensure specifications can be achieved
- Use data to drive improvement and reduce costs
- Should errors such as non-conformance reports (NCR) occur, raise cross-functional awareness, ask for help, drive timely resolution of issues and effective implementation of corrective actions; as appropriate lead collaborative, cross-functional efforts to resolve issues.
Budgeting and Financial Management Work with team members, Supervisors and Director of Operations to plan Manufacturing resource needs and costs for each fiscal year.
- Plan production and maintenance expenditures on an annualized basis; report deviations as soon as possible.
- Collaborate with Director of Operations and Engineering to investigate Material Utilization Variances (MUV) to understand root cause, seek corrections as appropriate.
- Investigate variations between actual and standard costs to understand root cause, seek corrections as appropriate.
- Collaborate as appropriate with Director of Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, and Quality to determine make vs. buy decisions; ensure best costs are attained while achieving quality requirements.
People Management Maintain an honest and collaborative environment that encourages curiosity, demands accountability, and rewards individual development.
- Directly manage the positions responsible for supporting each function in manufacturing and facilities
- Set goals, monitor progress, and ensure accountability for the teams and individual team members.
- Provide coaching, discipline, and direction for development of team members; participate in the hiring process for new/open positions
- Utilize suitably trained operators; cross-train to prevent single point failures
- Recognize accomplishments and contributions, celebrate curiosity

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Management and 3 years of experience in manufacturing, or 5 years of manufacturing leadership experience in lieu of a degree
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to analyze and write reports, ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and develop charts and graphs
- Effective problem solving and analytical skills
- Extensive experience in driving efficiency and improvement of manufacturing processes; experience utilizing Lean techniques
- Working knowledge of the impact of manufacturing and inventory management of accounting and finance
- Strong leadership skills that build effective teams by coaching and mentoring
- Proven ability to manage, measure and direct others to ensure results are achieved
- Experience in strategic planning and execution
- Must possess the ability to lead by example and have a high ability to motivate others towards the attainment of performance excellence
- Driven to achieve results and set goals
- Proficiency with ERP utilization, familiarity with Visual Manufacturing is a plus
- Experience using lean and/or quality system tools to manage manufacturing operations is a plus
