POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening
community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Northern Door Aquatics
Coordinator will provide strategic leadership and supervision for the branch Aquatics department. The incumbent will
focus on delivering high quality programs for participants, families, and community. Key delivery areas include; staff
development, community partnerships, fiscal management, program/enrollment growth, marketing and
communication, process improvement and developing a culture of philanthropy to support the departments, the center,
and the association.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Implement and enforce cleaning protocol in the direct program area and facilities in general to support member
and staff safety. Role model social distancing and safety expectations for others to follow.
2. Research, develop, implement, evaluate, and manage the center’s aquatics programs, incorporating community
needs/wants into program offerings, while also fulfilling YMCA objectives.
3. Coordinate the registration process for aquatic programs, ensuring effective on-line and in-house registration
systems. Compile and analyze participation statistics to achieve optimal participation.
4. Establish new program activities and expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and
operating plans.
5. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct staff and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate staff
performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Enhance department communication and
team building.
6. Collaborate and communicate regularly and effectively with staff working out of other YMCA locations; regularly
converse with like staff in other locations to ensure consistency among branches and programs.
7. Ensure that proper maintenance of pools and recordkeeping is being conducted. Monitor daily pool operations
to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintains accurate records of staff
certifications.
8. Determine the safety concerns when identified and decide on appropriate action to insure the safety of
participants and staff. Follow up on all decisions and recommendations.
9. Coordinate and schedule pool facilities to optimize program activities and events.
10. Conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
11. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information and schedules.
12. Develops and support collaborative relationships with community organizations, promoting the YMCA as a
community partner.
13. Develop and monitor program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
14. Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events aimed to promote the general organization and
strengthen community relationships.
15. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions. Respond to all member and community inquiries and
complaints in timely manner.
16. Actively participate in the Program Management Team, Branch Team and Association Staff meetings.
17. Exemplify, promote and incorporate Character Development and the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect
and Responsibility in all aspects of job performance and all relationships.
18. Must possess the skills and willingness to use financial information to manage.
19. Know and follow the established human resources and business procedures of the Association.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field preferred; three years of related
experience required.
3. Complete New Employee Orientation within 30 days of your hire date.
4. Obtain a current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid Certificate.
a. This certificate is valid for two years and it is your responsibility to keep it up to date.
5. Complete Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of your hire date.
a. This training is required annually throughout your employment.
6. Lifeguarding certification, Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and other department specific certifications may be
required during employment.
7. Building relationships with participants in the community is a key role, as well as, the ability to relate
effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
