As Operations Supervisor, you’ll lead site Operations employees in safely carrying out all production-related activities while remaining in compliance with quality specifications and government regulations.
You’ll build, maintain, and hold accountable a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration within the team and ensure all Drax standards of safety, respect in the workplace and operational policies and procedures are understood and properly executed.
You’ll exemplify Drax’s Values, Vision and Mission while setting the standard for safety, targets, budgets and team objectives.
Schedule:
- This position has a 4-on-4-off rotation
- 4 day shifts from 7:00am – 7:00pm / 4 days off / 4 night shifts from 7:00pm – 7:00am
- There is no on call required
Location: Burns Lake Plant
Our Burns Lake Plant is located approximately 20 minutes South-East of Burns Lake, British Columbia, Canada. Burns Lake is a beautiful Northern community home to great hiking trails and outdoor activities. This position requires a daily commute by vehicle to and from the site. Willingness and the ability to drive to and from work each day will be a requirement of the role.
About the role:
Leadership & Management
- Champions the Drax Safety Program; providing leadership by encouraging and demonstrating a safe and healthy work environment, aligned with company policies and procedures.
- Works closely and collaboratively with the operations team to achieve operational efficiency.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills across the plant and with Drax colleagues such as the reliability, technical, process, and automation teams.
- Leads employee development and training initiatives, including maintaining training compliance for equipment operation and safety standards.
Performance Management & Supervision
- Coaches employees, gives feedback, builds relationships, troubleshoots challenges, and evaluates performance.
- Collaborates with the maintenance team, planning for both short term and long-range projects.
- Ensures employees and contractors receive Drax orientation, onboarding, and training, through the lens of safety and our core values.
- Organize work schedules of employees, review vacation requests, and ensure appropriate coverage is provided for assigned work tasks of the operations team.
- Partner with the site leadership team and HR to ensure that recruitment, training, development, performance standards, are managed at a tangible level to drive improved performance
Operations
- Conducts and leads root cause analysis for equipment breakdowns and plant systems as required.
- Audits lockouts, hot work permits, and project completion for employees and contractors on site in line with safety requirements.
- Ensure Drax’s mechanical and operational assets are maintained in safe operating condition.
- Drives improvements, safety, productivity, quality, and service standards.
- Demonstrates accountability and resolves issues, while encouraging a respectful workplace.
- Supervises a shift of colleagues (General Labourers, Loader Operators, Control Room Operators, Rail Side Loaders, and Skilled Trades) in the pellet manufacturing process, ensuring compliance to safety, production, quality, and all other key performance indicators
- Monitors the quality of incoming raw materials as well as the finished products by reviewing testing data and constant interaction with employees.
- Implement and manage KPI’s for your shift.
About you:
- 3-5 years of progressive supervisor experience, preferably in Wood Products Manufacturing. A relevant combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Proven safety leader, who is committed to Drax’s Golden Rules of Safety.
- The ability to complete online and paper forms or basic checklists.
- The ability to effectively use Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Suite of Programs as well as work order systems and employee systems for time entry and reporting.
- A good understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures.
- You are an adaptable team player with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- A track record as an effective, supportive, and engaging supervisor.
