Job Summary:

The Hostess or Host (commonly known as host) is responsible for greeting guests as they enter a restaurant, taking reservations or putting them on a waiting list, consistently contacting guests on the reservation list using restaurant’s reservation systems, providing menus and showing the guests to their seat. The position also includes handling multiple phone calls, responding to guests’ enquiries about the menu, and engaging with guests with friendliness, and professionalism.

Education and Experience:

  • At least one year of proven and related experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Flexible with schedule, and long hours sometimes required, including working morning, afternoon, nights, holidays, and weekend shifts.
  • Ability to be on your feet throughout the entire shift: prolonged periods of standing, bending, stooping, twisting, and walking, including up and down the staircases.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, products, and supplies up to 30 pounds.

  • Working knowledge of basic information technology, and computer skills, including operating the computers, iPads, phones, fax machines, copiers and other office equipment.
  • Must be familiar with the Dunraven’s reservation systems.
  • Know and be able to complete job-specific duties for the shift assigned.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, and directions set by the manager on duty.
  • Must be able to follow the health, safety, and sanitary practices for food handling, and general cleanliness at all times.
  • Must be able to follow company policies and procedures at all times.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Able to manage and operate efficiently on the restaurant’s reservation systems.
  • Familiarity with restaurant management software for reservations, and sound systems.
  • Able to operate efficiently, promptly and cordially on the phone system.
  • Frequently answer phone calls and take reservations, including writing detailed messages, transferring phone calls accurately, and ensuring the calls or messages are received for the intended recipients.
  • Make reservations accurately on the restaurant’s reservation systems, including checking and inputting special requests, and waiting lists as necessary.
  • Contact guests about reservations on requests, changes, and/or confirmations consistently and promptly as needed.
  • Consistently check voicemails, and record detailed messages, and ensure the messages are received for the intended recipients.
  • Able to operate efficiently on the restaurant's sound system, and two-way radio transceiver.
  • Know all tables and bar seat numbers.
  • Familiarity with Dunraven’s menu, including all food, beverages and alcoholic selections.
  • Provide guests with menus and respond to any initial questions.
  • Assign guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotations in mind so that servers and bartenders receive the right number of guests.
  • Greet and engage with guests in a friendly and appropriate manner.
  • Able to anticipate future and current guests’ needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests even when busy.
  • Show and seat guests to the assigned tables.
  • Respond to complaints, and resolve them with manager’s instructions.
  • Complete proper closing report, and check out procedure with Manager on Duty.
  • Keeps Manager on Duty promptly and fully informed of all issues, and takes prompt corrective action recommended by Manager on Duty.
  • Perform and complete host’s opening, closing, and side work in a timely manner, including cleaning and prepping of dining areas. All hosts are responsible for the state in which they leave Dunraven.
  • Attend any scheduled training, complete any quizzes or homework assigned by the manager.
  • Adhere to the health, safety, and sanitary practices for food handling, and general cleanliness at all times.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures at all times.

Other Duties:

  • Bus and serve food and beverages when needed, including checking customers’ IDs to ensure they meet the minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
  • Able to operate, answer and take orders via the phone to complete the carry out and room service order accurately, and professionally; including any online orders.
  • Adhere to all payment procedures established, including collecting and processing cash, credit card, gift card and room service.
  • Adhere to POS procedures established, from taking food and drink orders to entering the information accurately and clearly into the systems.
  • Complete proper closing report, and check out procedure with manager on duty, including details of charges, discounts, room service, reporting and collection of tips, and proper tip-out for support staff.
  • Assemble or dismantle setups of chairs and tables, including decorations and place setting.
  • Provide training to employees when required.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned at the discretion of management.
