Descriptionof Job Duties: This caseworker is assigned to a unit within the Economic Services Section.
The employee must determine how the changes impact the eligibility of the case. Other duties may be assigned to the worker when deemed necessary by the Supervisor or Program Administrator.
This worker must be human services oriented and possess the ability to interact well with the Supervisor, Co-workers, and Customers and be able to work in a team environment. This worker must utilize the online NC FAST Program, Manuals, and DSS Administrative Letters as appropriate. This employee is expected to make the final decision in determining eligibility by applying written policy, but be able to recognize situations that should be referred to the Supervisor for clarification.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: This position performs technical work investigating suspected fraud by recipients of public assistance; representing the agency in judicial and administrative hearings; gathering data; maintaining records and files; preparing reports; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Income Maintenance Administrator.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public social service organizations Through knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the processing and/or review of applications for income maintenance programs Thorough knowledge of manuals, rules, and procedures used in determining eligibility Thorough knowledge of investigative procedures and techniques Thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the judicial system.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an appropriately accredited Associate’s degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum and two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Investigator OR High School diploma or equivalent from appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Investigator OR High School diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of investigative experience in credit, legal, or law enforcement work plus eighteen months of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Income Maintenance Investigator.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
