What You’ll Do
As the Operator Trainee, you will be responsible for the operation and care of process equipment in one or more of the areas within the Waggaman, Louisiana Ammonia Plant. Other duties will include:
- Responsible for the operation and care of process equipment in one or more areas of the WALA Ammonia Plant:
- Takes routine readings as required simultaneously observing and inspecting process equipment for proper operation. Read various gauges measuring temperatures, pressures or flows, records readings and may make adjustments and/or minor repairs
- Operates, stops, starts equipment and systems within the plans by observing various pressure, temperature and flow gauges and makes adjustments to controls and equipment as required.
- Read technical information and take appropriate action, based on interpretation of Operating Procedures, Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID’s), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s) and technical manuals.
- Checks and maintains lubrication of heavy industrial rotating equipment if necessary.
- Opens and closes large valves at ground level, within structures, and at the top of vessels and towers if required by specific job within certain areas of the plant.
- Documents and reports observations to request repairs/improvements.
- Samples product and performs Quality Control testing.
- Makes entries to Operator Logbooks and PC spreadsheets and communicates operating conditions to his/her relief.
- Cooperates and works with other plant operators as required during startups, shutdowns and emergencies.
- Ensures that operating procedures are kept accurate and up to date.
What We’re Looking For:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Ability to read and comprehend technical data; must have aptitude for mechanical and mathematical principles
- Must be willing and eligible to obtain a TWIC Card
- Must be willing to undergo and pass an ATF background check as required to be a possessor of explosives
- Ability to understand and utilize training in order to operate designated areas of the plant in a safe manner.
