The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Advancement Operations, a position that reports to the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and serves as an active member of University Advancement’s senior leadership team. The AVC leads three essential teams – Advancement Services, Donor Relations, and Strategic Initiatives – to create and sustain strategic customer-service-oriented and donor-centric operations and communications that support the Division of University Advancement and its partners. These efforts are intended to broaden the engagement of the University’s stakeholders and increase gift revenue from individuals and organizations supporting the University’s priorities. The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Advancement Operations should have experience in advancement information technology, personnel management, budget oversight, campaign planning, donor relations, strategic communications, and events.
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Advancement Operations will have:
- Deep understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process

- Understanding of effective and efficient best practices for multiple areas within University Advancement
- Superior technology skills are required, including an understanding of complex data management tools, technical skill/experience with industry-specific software and familiarity with institutional software platforms

- Ability to identify and analyze complex situations and recommend or implement strategic, effective courses of action in a fast-paced environment

- Knowledge of VSE and CASE reporting standards and management guidelines for educational fundraising

PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL TIME
30% – Strategic Operations and Infrastructure Management
Collaborate closely with the Vice Chancellor to set and implement University Advancement standard operating procedures, goals, and budgets. Oversee the planning, operation, and evaluation of the technology infrastructure supporting university-wide development, marketing, and alumni relations activities. Ensure compliance with industry standards, VSE and CASE guidelines, and UNC System and ECU policies. Develop and oversee campaign and initiative tracking mechanisms to ensure milestone achievement. Utilize analytics to drive success across the division.
25% – Administrative Leadership
Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight, including budget and staffing, for Advancement Services, Donor Relations, and Strategic Initiatives functions and operations supporting the strategic plans of the university, the division, and associated entities. Develop and communicate a vision for Advancement Services, Donor Relations, and Strategic Initiatives to stakeholders across the university. Serve as a vital member of the University Advancement Leadership Team. Attend various events throughout the year, including occasional overnight and weekend travel.
25% – Marketing and Communication Oversight
Develop integrated marketing strategies and activity plans for key programs to achieve campaign and initiative objectives. Oversee, track, and enhance communications, stewardship, donor relations, events, and promotions across all audiences. Maintain a strong understanding of and ensure implementation of industry-specific best practices and standards.
15% – Collaboration and Relationship Building
Work collaboratively with deans and senior administrators to foster broad, coordinated involvement and cooperation regarding gifts and records management, outreach, donor relations, alumni and donor CRM systems, policies, and procedures. Provide leadership and direction internally to build a culture of customer service, achievement, professionalism, and efficiency while coaching and mentoring staff members. Maintain a close working relationship with Financial Services.
