What are the responsibilities and job description for the WIC LPN/ Nutritionist position at EAST CENTRAL DISTRICT HEALTH DEPARTMENT?
POSITION SUMMARY:
A WIC CPA is Certified Professional Authority who is directly responsible for health screenings, and health and nutrition assessment to determine WIC eligibility. The WIC CPA is responsible for medical/nutritional equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide quality customer service.
2. Encourage and educates participates on nutrition according to WIC policies and documents.
3. Use client centered counseling and motivational interviewing techniques to provide education.
4. Work cooperatively with participants in setting achievable goals.
5. Correctly identify all relevant risk codes and educate on risks.
6. Review printed benefit list with each family.
7. Weigh and measure clients and discuss the growth chart/prenatal weight gain.
8. Obtain hemoglobin and explain results.
9. Encourages breast feeding with all pregnant women and teens.
10. Promotes, educates and support breastfeeding among WIC participates.
11. Encourage and educates participates on nutrition according to WIC policies and documents.
12. Evaluate immunization record and document in computer system.
13. Through eWIC Journey (computer WIC system) documents that required teaching has been done during the certification process for all WIC clients seen
14. Documents all referrals through eWIC Journey
15. Collect documents of immunization information on all children and during their six-month assessment through eWIC Journey
16. Document client information in the relevant panels and complete a care plan for each certification and nutrition education.
17. Document nutrition education topics discussed and pamphlets provided.
18. Complete state WIC Personal Activity Report (PAR) timesheet.
19. Contact physician offices to gather additional information, and physician authorization as needed.
20. Attend and complete trainings as required by the State of Nebraska WIC Administration.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field; Registered Dietitian; Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); or Registered Nurse (RN) required.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to work well with individuals of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Basic Life Support Certificate.
- Previous experience working in a hospital, clinic or physician’s office.
- Database management.
- Experience with WIC Journey software.
- Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) or International Board of Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credentials preferred
- Bi-lingual preferred.'
