What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extrusion Operator 1 position at Easy Pak LLC?
We are currently seeking a 1st and 2nd shift Extrusion Operators at our Leominster, MA Facility

Material handling equipment:
- Set different blends according to job requirements
- Maintain constant flow of material between the in-feed hoppers, the blender, the crystallizer, and the dryer.
- Be able to debug any feeding problems
- Manage the filling of regrind gaylords from the thermoformers and to the extruder. Pack Gaylords to ship.
Operate the crystallizer:
- Know how to set the optimum processing parameters for different blends, and for variations in bulk density of the material. Know how to adjust temperatures, dosing rates, and drum speed to achieve proper crystallization.
- Monitor for chunks and be able to change process parameters to eliminate these.
Operate the dryer:
- Learn when the dryer is to be used.
- Understand the parameters to monitor to ensure it is working properly.
- Change the filters when necessary.
Operate the extruder:
- Learn how to use the start-up checklist to make sure the extruder is ready to start.
- Learn how to identify when temperatures are correct for start-up.
- Know how to set up the extruder to make different sheet widths and thicknesses. This entails correctly adjusting the speeds on the main motor, gear pump motor, chill roll motors, pull roll motor, and die gap.
- Be able to set up the silicone coating system properly.
- Check the quality of the sheet being made. Check for correct width, thickness, and silicone coating.
- Be able to identify and correct quality problems.
- Be able to change the melt filter on the extruder.
- Be able to change the winding of the sheet from one winder to the other.
- Be able to take the roll of sheet off the winder and prepare the winder for the next roll
- Be able to drive a lift truck and take the finished rolls of sheet to the proper storage location.
- Change the sheet from one roll to the other. This implies quickly cutting the sheet from one winder to the other.
- Drop rolls from the winders and return the chuck to the winder to prepare for the next roll.
- Pack rolls to ship and or store
Operate a lift truck:
- Be able to operate a lift truck to be able to bring material to the extruder, to dismount finished rolls from the extruder, and to take these rolls to their proper storage locations.
Help with the material handling on all thermoforming machines:
- Bring cartons to the thermoforming machines
- Take finished product away from the thermoforming machines.
Do the preventive maintenance on all the equipment assigned to that shift.
- Each shift has an assigned list of preventive maintenance. These include:
- Changing filters as needed (vacuum pump, extruder melt screen, & dryer aftercooler)
- Lubricate
- Inspect
- Keep the work area clean and organized. This includes the material handling area, the extruder area, and winding area.
During weekends the operators must also perform the following with their helper:
- Clean and organize the plant
- Perform weekly preventive maintenance & monthly maintenance of the extruder and building
- Help tipping rolls for any Sencorp’s working over the weekend
- Help ship finished goods from any Sencorp’s working over the weekend
- Must be self-motivated with high sense of urgency, resourcefulness, and adaptability
- Willing to mentor less skilled employees as career progresses

- Work a 12 Hour Shift
- Must be able to understand a complex system and how the parts inter-relate to the other parts.
- When necessary, help operate thermoforming machines, lift trucks, help with material handling, or any other function the Supervisor asks.
- Continuously look for ways to improve the efficiency, safety, and hygiene of the operation.
- Continuously look for ways to improve quality.
- Must report any safety concerns to your supervisor.
- Must report any hygiene concerns to your supervisor.
