Overview
Smith & Porter is seeking a Restaurant General Manager to join its team. Smith & Porter is located in Abiitan, an Ecumen senior housing community situated in the heart of the Mill City District of Downtown Minneapolis.
Smith & Porter is open to the public and is comprised of a full-service restaurant and bar, a café, catering services, and a private dining room, totaling 120-seats. Smith & Porter also supports The Terraces, Abiitan's Memory Care and Assisted Living Residences, by providing those who live there three meals a day. Smith & Porter's goal is to make every meal special. We feature high quality, locally-sourced ingredients prepared to the best of our ability. Not all restaurants in Minneapolis take our made-from-scratch approach, but it's important to us, because quality matters. Smith and Porter offers an upscale experience in a casual setting. Our restaurant is just steps from countless attractions including the Stone Arch Bridge, Gold Medal Park, Saint Anthony Falls, The Guthrie Theater, US Bank Stadium and other local attractions.
Abiitan provides three levels of care, which helps us fulfill our goal of being an “Age in Place” community.
Independent Living – 77 residences
Assisted Living – 28 residences
Memory Care – 20 residences

Responsibilities
The Restaurant General Manager is responsible for managing the food and beverage operations within budget and to the highest levels of service. Ensuring excellent levels of internal and external customer service. Responsible for forecasting, planning and managing all aspects of food service. The General Manager is responsible for both the front and back of the house as it relates to all aspects of food service.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- High School graduate or GED
- Certified Food Manager in accordance with MN Department of Health
- Food service management experience
- Current valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance (if applicable)
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Ability to follow all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility including but not limited to: Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy, HIPAA, Resident’s Bill of Rights, Universal Precaution, AWAIR, OSHA, Right to know, SDS, ADA, HUD Policy and Procedures, Fair Housing laws and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Management or similar
- Previous experience in providing food service management to seniors
- Previous experience in inventory control, food cost analysis, menu planning, event planning
