This position, under general direction of the Senior Health and Safety Compliance Manager, is responsible for the daily activities associated with the development, direction, and implementation of EDF Renewable's (EDFR) Health and Safety Compliance programs. This position serves to provide EDFR leadership and employees with sound guidance to ensure a safe and healthful work environment that complies with all Federal, State, and local safety and environmental regulations.
- Develops, presents and administers Health, Safety and Environmental training for the North American EDFR organization.
- Researches training topics, identifies trends in training methodology and makes recommendations on the best approach to present particular topics.
- Will develop HSE documents and information for distribution to the field and corporate organization detailing requirements and implementation criteria in order to achieve and maintain compliance.
- Will function as a subject matter expert in health and safety matters, providing high level professional advice and guidance to the field organization as well as the corporate offices.
- Provides technical guidance on procedures and processes to assure employee safety and compliance with applicable regulations and/or consensus standards.
- Assists in the development and review of location audits along with identifying systemic trends that impact the organization and strategizing on proper corrective actions.
- Will be responsible for managing travel expenses as well as ensuring all program requests are accompanied by a sound business plan and associated costs with budget impact.
- All other job related duties as assigned by the HSE Manager (or designee).
Working Conditions:
40% of this positions time is spent in the office environment utilizing computers (frequent use of Microsoft Suite, and specialized software), telephones, and general office equipment, meeting with operations teams, conducting research and project support or going to industry conferences.
60% of this positions time is spent in the field environment visiting operations facilities, conducting audits, providing support and guidance, conducting investigations and building relationships with field teams. Field work may take place in all weather conditions and extremes including very high temps, very low temps, rain, snow and wind. May require extensive travel by motor vehicle and aircraft.
Field and office time are approximations and may vary. However, once established in this position the accepted candidate will largely control their own travel schedule and locations with input from direct manager.
Qualifications:
- Requires basic knowledge about renewable energy power production systems, including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities.
- Practical safety administration experience preferred, or experience organizing and tracking large projects.
- Proficient reading, comprehension and writing skills. Technical writing ability necessary. Short-listed candidates may be asked during the interview process to share a technical writing sample of their own creation and choosing (previous work product is preferred) as evidence of this ability.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively across all operational levels of the organization as well as with vendors and customers, exercising appropriate tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of Federal and State health and safety laws and regulations.
- Must be able to work with diverse groups of people in challenging environments.
- Must have a valid driver's license with clean DMV record.
- Must have a valid passport for international travel.
- Ability to produce professional documents with various Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint (Office Suite).
- Must have the ability to present a wide range of safety topics to large groups.
- Must have a high level of organizational skills, with the ability to function in an environment that may have little direct supervision.
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout the United States, or internationally as required or directed.
- Continued education as required to fulfill required duties.
Education/Experience:
- Associates degree or higher in regulatory compliance, hazard identification, safety auditing, corrective action development, safety document development, safety training development, or like safety, health or industrial hygiene topics.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), similar or higher professional certification required.
- Minimum of 5 years of practical, full-time safety experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at heights, including climbing and descending wind towers of various heights (300 feet or more). This includes passing the initial Functional Capacity Examination, climb test and related training.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including cold, rain, wind, etc.
This role's annual base salary range is between $81,000 and $135,000.
