What are the responsibilities and job description for the 6th Grade Teacher Elementary 2023-2024 position at EdKey Inc.?

Job Goal: To assist students in learning all subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible citizens.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans a program of studies that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. A guaranteed and viable curriculum is not an accident. To be guaranteed and viable each teacher must create a meaningful annual curriculum map along with effective weekly and daily teaching plans that provide each student the opportunity to learn, that allow adequate time to cover all content satisfactorily, that focus on central learning skills and that emphasize basic skill acquisition. Children must be actively taught vocabulary to succeed in reading and other academic endeavors.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students. The environment reflects the fact that each child is known as an individual and as a learner.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, etc., that are communicated to the students and parents.
  • Employs instructional methods and obtains a variety of materials and resources for use in educational purposes that are most appropriate for meeting stated curriculum objectives and district benchmarks.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides assessment reports as required. This includes ensuring that Power School is regularly updated and that grades are entered in a consistent and timely manner. Benchmarks for reading, math and writing are updated and used to inform instructional choices.
  • Responds to the learning needs/styles of all students, seeking the assistance of instructional specialists (Special Education, Title One) as needed or required.
  • Consults and meets with colleagues, principal, students and/or parents on a regular basis. This includes participation in Supervision and Evaluation conferences with the principal and any Sequoia supervisor as needed.
  • Assists administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops and maintains reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures in a fair and just manner.
  • Maintain and apply, when necessary, appropriate discipline to maintain an effective classroom environment according to the rules and disciplinary systems of the school as stated in Sequoia's Policies and Procedures and school level handbooks.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and/or volunteers and cooperatively with the principal evaluates job performance based on the Sequoia Teachers' Hierarchy.
  • Attends staff, department, and school meetings and serves on staff committees as requested/required.
  • Initiates and completes personnel, staff development, training, workshops, and attendance documentation as required by administration.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences for students in your care. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. Assign and grade homework, tests, and assignments.
  • Maintain accurate and complete written records of students' progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, procedures and school regulations. Prepare required written reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by keeping up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources, and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Performs other duties as required by the administration.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work in writing and verbally.
  • Use and operate relevant technology equipment provided by the school to support instruction. This includes but is not limited to typing and other basic computer functions.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development verbally and in written form.
  • Perform certain pastoral duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement.
  • Effectively communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs in written and verbal communications.
  • Timely arrive at school each school day and maintain regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Teacher Attendance Policy.

QUALIFICATIONS: State Certification in Subject Areas Taught and / or Area Taught. Must Maintain Ethical Behavior and Maintains Confidentiality as Defined in Sequoia Schools Procedures

Education and Experience Needed for Job

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, Sequoia organization, and the State of Arizona
  • State certification preferred
  • IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Relevant teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge and ability to use relevant technology
