GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Senior GIS Associate will report to the GIS Manager and is responsible for GIS applications, data, and technical user support activities and priorities set forth by EDPR North America GIS Team.
The EDPR North America GIS Team (NA GIS Team) primarily supports the EDP Renewables (EDPR) business users in North America with GIS software applications, workflows, data, and exhibits required to develop Wind, Solar, and Storage projects. The NA GIS Team is responsible for providing guidance to EDPR IT and ESRI to ensure the GIS infrastructure (Cloud-hosted Portal) meets the needs of the NA) ArcGIS Enterprise platforms; provides business user technical support for ArcGIS Pro installations and troubleshooting; designs and implements GIS data management standards and workflows; provide GIS training to users; and assists with GIS software integration solutions.
The Senior GIS Associate will provide highly visible, front-office, expert support to all GIS business users on behalf of the GIS Team. The Sr. Associate will communicate, mentor, and work closely with other GIS Team members to identify specific GIS needs for EDPR by interfacing with GIS business users to provide GIS problem-solving expertise. He/She will coordinate various types of GIS user trainings and meetings, as necessary; and will provide technical guidance and GIS Team members as well as all GIS users in the company.
Main Accountability
- Demonstrate advanced GIS technical expertise; with special emphasis in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise platform administration. Ability to quickly learn new software and make recommendations for Enterprise platform enhancements. Knowledge of API and software integration is a plus
- Provide client and web-based application troubleshooting and technical support for ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise. A strong IT background in desktop application installation and networking and software optimization is essential. Python coding experience preferred
- Develop and implement GIS Data Governance strategies and GIS Standard Operating Procedures within the ArcGIS Enterprise framework
- Collaborate with international teams to strategize on best practices, identify and document GIS data management protocols, and implement compliance requirements throughout the organization
- Demonstrate expertise in cartographic design and geodetic principle; apply knowledge to exhibit layouts, templates, and web-based maps
- Exhibit proficiency in coordinating reference systems and transformations; develop strategies and create plans for geodetic governance and best practice. Convert geographic data formats and standard data conversion and data transformation methods, for geographic analysis
- Coordinate and host individual, group, and company-wide user training as related to GIS initiatives. Monthly technical trainings and quarterly user-group meetings. Will also create a technical training plan using Advantage program e-learnings
- Exhibit enthusiasm and proficiency in process improvement and problem-solving
- Document methodologies and end-user training, as necessary
- This individual work closely with the GIS team and IT to help resolve technical issues and gather information that would be useful in future GIS planning initiatives
Primary Goals
The Sr GIS Associate will work closely with all EDPR Business teams to implement, standardize, administer, and provide trainings for the following initiatives:
- ArcGIS Pro User Support & Training: Responsible for coordinating and hosting all GIS User onboarding and monthly technical trainings. Identify presenters capture recorded presentations, design EDPR Training plans via ESRI Advantage program. Will also coordinate with corporate training team.
- EDPR GIS Data Atlas: The generation and maintenance of national and statewide GIS datasets consisting of public and proprietary data for use across the company. Data should be accessible to users in Intended to include existing infrastructure, survey data, and land features intended to be "one-stop" for use by development, engineering, construction, legal and environmental teams, but can be used for any other teams. Work with back-office staff to remove duplicate datasets and populate metadata according to GIS Data Governance Plan.
- GIS Data Governance: Work with GIS Manager to create GIS Data Governance plan for the organization for in-house and ArcGIS Enterprise. Identify global, regional, and local schemas, create standards, and formats (including metadata). Will consist of extensive documentation and user training and planned communication for knowledge transfer to the general EDPR Population.
- ArcGIS Enterprise Administration: Work closely with EDPR NA IT to develop a GIS data management solution using the cloud; work with Back-office staff to automate data collection and remove redundancys.
- ArcGIS Enterprise Dashboards and Web Maps: An initiative to standardize and maintain web-based project maps that depict dynamic status updates (accessible by all EDPR personnel) throughout Project Development Lifecycle.
- Exhibit Standardization & Automation: Create automation in ArcGIS Pro or Enterprise that will generate various exhibits for landowner agreements, crossing agreements, permitting, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro
- Minimum 7 years of experience in GIS software of any kind
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college in GIS, Surveying, Engineering, Geography, Information Systems, or science or math - related degree, and at least three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive experience with ESRI ArcGIS Software (ArcGIS Desktop and Extensions, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal)
- Solid understanding of technologies and how to produce ArcGIS data services (WMS, WFS, Hosted Feature Services)
- Experience in ArcGIS software and hardware installation/configuration
- Knowledge of Location and Navigation Systems to integrate GPS devices and data with enterprise GIS
- Technical expertise in obtaining, manipulating, and organizing data as well as defining, planning, and implementing analysis and processes; Knowledge of GIS System Architecture to maintain and support enterprise GIS infrastructure
- Experience coordinating, preparing, and delivering user training. Strong presentation skills
- Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise (Preferred)
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in process automation utilizing Python, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript or related Developer software
- Knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise Widgets and Apps and Tools
- Knowledge of ESRI Production Mapping suites of tools, including Data Review, Workflow Manager, Task Assistant Manager, Data Interoperability, PowerBI
- Understanding of Microsoft Office 365, Visio, and Teams
- Experience in Project Management with customer service-oriented delivery
