MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Assistant.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-11 or higher deemed eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Employees of ACCES-VR who are currently in a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Assistant position and are interested in transferring to the location indicated on this flyer MUST apply for the position as outlined in the Application section of this posting.
55b/c Appointment: These positions are eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.
Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or vocational rehabilitation; OR 60 semester college credit hours and one year of qualifying experience; OR three years of qualifying experience. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Assistant when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.
- Conduct intake interviews, review eligibility for financial assistance, and monitor training records;
- Verify employment, which may require site visits to rehabilitation facilities, schools and training centers;
- Authorize necessary medical diagnostic examinations;
- Prepare financial and statistical records and reports;
- Prepare routine correspondence to consumers and their families, vendors and other agencies concerning consumer status and progress; and
- Schedule transportation, interpreters, readers, and independent living services for disabled consumers.
- Leads to a maximum salary of $59.542 based on annual performance advances.
