Referral Specialist I
Working hours: M-F 8AM-7PM CST
Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). The ideal candidate will live within 50 miles of one of our Elevance Health PulsePoint locations.
The Referral Specialist I is responsible for providing support to a clinical team in order to facilitate the administrative components of clinical referrals.
This job posting is for our Back Office Clinical Team . As a member of this team, you will be required to perform specific duties to ensure departmental goals are met daily.
How you will make an impact:
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Outbound calls to Members and Providers to provide services and/or determination of case review.
- Responding to inbound calls for Peer-to-Peer scheduling between the Medical Doctor's offices and our AIM Physician Reviewers
- Making outbound calls for connection of Peer-to-Peer appointments between the Medical Doctor's offices and our AIM Physician Reviewers
- Initiates and manages clinical referrals for pre-authorization.
- Acts as a liaison between hospital, health plans, physicians, patients, vendors and other referral sources.
- Reviews referrals for completeness and follows up for additional information if necessary.
- Assigns escalated referrals to staff as appropriate.
- Verifies insurance coverage and completes pre-authorization process for radiology and other imaging exams (CT, MRI, MRA, PET, et.) following established process and procedures.
- Responds to inbound calls initiating exam requests following established processes, meets quality and production standards.
- Contacts physician offices as needed to obtain demographic information or related data.
- Enters referrals, documents communications and actions in system.
Requires HS diploma or GED and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a high-volume, interactive customer service or call center environment; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
- Experience multi-tasking on the job by navigating multiple computer applications preferred
- Experience performing internet research to complete work tasks utilizing browsers such as Internet Explorer preferred
- Experience using MS Office tools on the job, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel preferred

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary* range for this specific position is $15 to $26 per hour
