Description:
The Unit Secretary purpose is to assist with planning, organizing implementation and evaluation of the activities occurring in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area.
Responsibilities for the Unit Secretary:
· Conduct job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set forth in the Code of conduct, policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
· Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
· Keep confidential all patient information received.
· Perform clerical functions for the nursing unit within the unit secretary scope of responsibility
· Receive and transmit patient requests.
· Answer telephone and intercom, take messages and communicate messages to the appropriate person.
· Asist patients and visitors in nursing unit as needed.
· Prepare and keeps current census sheets, flow sheet, dietary requisitions, and other forms, deliver them to the proper department as necessary.
· Perform clerical duties related to admission and discharge patients.
· Order supplies and equipment; receive and place items in their proper storage area. Keep nursing station stocked and with adequate supply forms and other clerical needs.
· Compile new charts, maintain current charts, and enter patient information on the charts.
· Schedule patient appointments and tests.
· Assist ion orientation of new staff to clerical duties of the unit.
· Arrange transportation when needed.
· Ensure residents with Medicaid are registered in the Medicaid transportation System.
Qualifications for the Unit Secretary:
· High School diploma
· Ability to work independently, self-directed.
· Knowledge of medical terminology helpful, but not necessary.
· SNF experience
