Eliot is currently seeking a Forensic Peer Specialist for the new Lowell Forensic Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) Team.. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the unique needs and history/background of the population and knowledge of placement options. A proven experience in community-based work with adults with severe and persistent mental illness are a must.

PACT is an evidenced based multidisciplinary outreach mental program that serves adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses in the community. PACT staff work as a team to collaborate with consumers to develop treatment interventions that assist them in their recovery process.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that consumers are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with ECHS’ Human Rights policy. Includes but is not limited to: assisting consumers in maintaining their appearance; supporting consumers' cultural and religious preferences. Ensure that the foundations of services encompass empowerment, choices and recovery.
  • Empower consumers to exercise control over their lives, including daily routines within their home, their treatment and leisure activities. Includes informing consumers of choices in all areas of living to promote individual control.
  • Provide and maintain therapeutic boundaries and a professional relationship with consumers. E
  • Assist consumers in being fully integrated in their communities by supporting them in the use of community resources, encouraging them in establishing memberships within their communities, and reducing stigma within the community through education.
  • Actively take part in supervision, staff meetings, in-services and trainings as required or determined by supervisor.
  • Deliver and monitor consumer medications in accordance with Agency, DMH and DPH regulations, policies and procedures. Ensure the maintenance and accuracy of all documentation and administration.
  • Transport consumers to required probation/parole meetings, court -mandated community-based treatment meeting, work sites, daily activities, appointments, and activities as needed. Follow all motor vehicle rules and regulations when driving consumers.
  • Ensure the safety of consumers; implementing crisis intervention as necessary. Includes but not limited to: use of deescalating modes of communication/ interaction to ensure consumer’s safety, stability, mental status, and physical health; utilize supervisor and team members for consultation; communicating all pertinent information in a clear and concise manner with particular attention to clinical observations.
  • Participate in Daily Organizational Meeting (DOM) in accordance with Eliot policies and PACT standards. This shall include completing progress notes prior to the DOM for every consumer contact and collateral contact in the format indicated by policy.
  • Document daily progress notes for all contacts with each consumer in accordance with Eliot Policy and PACT fidelity standards.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and at least two years of paid or volunteer experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness. Certification as Forensic Peer Specialist is required.
  • May substitute one year of experience with a college degree in the human services or criminal justice field.
  • Must utilize personal experiences of criminal justice system involvement and behavioral health recovery.
  • Must have self-knowledge to manage their mental health and be well along in their recovery.
  • Must have skills to establish supportive relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for their preferences for treatment.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule contingent upon program needs. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with periods of high stress

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 am - 4 pm

Bonus Breakdown:

  • Completion of one month's employment: $1,500
  • Completion of 6 months' employment (probationary period): $1,500
