ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Claims Manager is responsible for receiving, reviewing, investigating, and recommending a course of action on all aspects of freight claims received from customers. The Claims Manager will also develop and implement necessary aspects of a freight loss prevention program, and work closely with senior management and insurance carriers. The Claims Manager will manage both the operations and the staff of the claims department.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the daily operations of the claims & compliance department and staff
- Negotiate claims, secure settlement authority, coordinate claims, process required paperwork in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
- Regulate, and help maintain carrier compliance
- Work with external 3rd parity compliance vendors
- Coordinate with various departments on handling unique customer requirements involving insurance, shipping, and billing and liability issues
- Communicate effectively with customers and carriers regarding the status of claims
- Manage claim incidents and transactions through the reconciliation process, ensuring accurate receipt and reporting of credits due
- Maintain current knowledge of various commodity costs as they relate to claims
- Maintain current knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, CFR49, Carmack and other federal guidelines, rules, regulations, and timeline pertaining to freight claims
- Maintain tight control of what gets paid and how much is paid
- Identify and eliminate recurring problems through better process, policy, and training
- Responsible for a claim/loss prevention process to eliminate claims before they occur
- Lead and develop claims department employees to ensure their professional growth
- Maintain confidentiality of company information

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3 years previous freight claims management experience is required.
- Supply chain management/logistics experience is required.
- Legal experience (paralegal) is highly preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and across all levels.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on customer satisfaction and cost control.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to juggle competing tasks.
- Overtime required as business permits.
- Ability to work extended hours in front of a computer.
- Strong data entry skills with a focus on speed and accuracy.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever changing office environment.
- 4-year degree from an accredited university is preferred
