What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Planner position at Ellume?
Role Summary
The Materials Planner is responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products according to company needs and customer requirements. Responsibilities include collaborating with other managers to determine supply needs, purchasing materials & supplies according to specifications, as well as the coordination and supervision of receiving procedures.
Essential Functions
- Establish and maintain material planning assumptions in coordination with purchasing, planning, manufacturing operations, logistics/warehousing, and commercial teams. This includes considerations such as safety stocks, lead times, order quantities, production campaigns, supplier delivery performance, batch yields, and cycle times.
- Develop the raw materials requirements plan and work with suppliers to obtain a delivery commitment which aligns production schedule deliveries.
- Balance the required and available material to optimize service, working capital, and material costs given network lead times and order quantities.
- Work closely with production planning and scheduling teams to ensure proper material coverage and accurate material delivery schedules.
- Monitor supply plans to identify changes and to determine their impact on material requirements schedules.
- Manage raw material suppliers and freight providers to adjust the delivery schedules to accommodate near-term orders that differ from the agreed sales and operations (S&OP) plan.
- Facilitate weekly supply planning meetings with key suppliers (as needed) and ensure gaps between demand & supply are clearly understood, communicated, and that the appropriate actions are in place to resolve root cause.
- Align with critical suppliers on material availability, key risks, and constraints for short and midterm.
- Identify potential capacity constraints and bottlenecks in the supply base.
- Obtain appropriate purchase approval based on delegation of authority.
- Drive maximum utilization of the ERP system for all MRP functions and inventory control.
- Identify opportunities to reduce transportation costs and charges.
- Ensure SOPs and Work Instructions reflect accurate work practices and review/revise documentation, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or related field of study. A combination of education and years of experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- 5 years of experience in a healthcare facility and/or related industry.
- Advanced knowledge of Materials Management policies and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.
- Keen organizational and planning capabilities.
- Superior verbal and written communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Proficient with inventory reporting systems.
- Strong understanding of forecasting and budgeting.
- Ability to manage multiple, concurrent responsibilities and prioritize schedule of work.
Desirable
- Experience in medical device manufacturing industry.
- Business fluency in Mandarin
