POSITION SUMMARY: The Physical Therapist provides physical therapy (PT) services to students as prescribed by a physician and indicated in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). This includes conducting evaluations, assessments, analyzing data, writing reports, and determining the strengths and areas of concern or need relative to gross motor abilities to assist students in accessing their educational program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct and indirect PT services through individual PT sessions and consultation with the teacher, parent and other related service providers (IEP Team) including but not limited to utilization of gross motor equipment, delivering aquatic therapy, assisting students with active and passive exercises, gait and functional training, etc.
- Evaluate and instruct teacher/parent in using exercises, positioning and adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, braces, orthodics, etc. through a collaborative model of consultation
- Maintain specialized equipment and evaluates for proper fit
- Measure for and orders equipment for individual student use as changes in need are presented
- Provide treatment in ambulatory skills, proper posturing, use of adaptive equipment and adaptation to activities and physical environments, etc. to access the student's educational program
- Participate in data review Pre-IEP and IEP meetings by identifying skill deficits, recommending assessment needs, consulting with, and assisting the IEP team, including teacher, clinicians, parents, school districts, in the development of the gross motor goals
- Conduct evaluations using formal and informal assessments and screenings utilizing the established Re-evaluation Report (RR) process to identify gross motor needs
- Provide materials, training and staff in-service regarding PT needs of the varied student population
- Complete all documentation and/or share recommendations related to IEP development, progress monitoring and data collection, Re-evaluation Reports (RR), Behavioral Support Plans (BSP), School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems (SWPBIS), and Extended School Year (ESY) Program, as required by Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations and sending-district's policy and funding requirements
- Adhere to PDE established timelines relating to all required documentation
- Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the State Board of Physical Therapy
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols
- Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Physical Therapy license
- Newly licensed graduates considered
- Ability to understand, interpret and implement physician-prescribed treatment
- Non-profit human service experience highly preferred
- Experience working with both verbal and nonverbal students (ages 3-21 years) in Autism Support, Emotional Support and Life Skills Support programs
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, methods and equipment used in direct and consultative PT services
- Demonstrate knowledge of current diagnostic and assessment tools available for use with students with PT needs.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education and other professional growth activities
- Non-profit human service experience highly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
- Must be able to perform CPR using agency-trained protocols
- Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated intermediate, experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; report-writer experience preferred
- Experience using/knowledge of electronic student and/or health record preferred
