Position Summary

The Department of Geography (http://geography.indiana.edu) at Indiana University, Bloomington invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin on August 1st, 2024. We seek an individual with expertise in terrestrial vegetation science focusing on remote sensing who is committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary scholars whose research examines vegetation responses to climate and/or disturbances across different scales, combined with Geographic Information Science (GIS), field-based observations, and/or modeling. It is expected that the candidate will assist in creating a new Master’s degree in GIS and Remote Sensing. We value research, teaching, and service that intersects with issues of environmental justice and/or diversity and inclusivity in geography. Applicants with demonstrated commitment to mentoring, teaching, and engaging people from diverse backgrounds (including first-generation college students, low-income students, racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ ) are particularly encouraged. Candidates with an interest in contributing to the Department of Geography’s curricular offerings and research portfolio in ways that enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion are highly desired.

A Ph.D. is required at time of appointment. Basic Qualifications
Candidates will have a Ph.D. in geography or a closely related earth or environmental science discipline. The successful applicant is expected to show potential in establishing a rigorous, nationally or internationally recognized research program.
