What are the responsibilities and job description for the Asphalt | Heavy Equipment Mechanic position at Emery Sapp & Sons?
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assembles, sets up, adjusts, maintains and repairs all types of construction equipment
- Inspects and diagnoses machinery to determine need for and cost of repairs
- Tests, installs new or repaired unit back into equipment
- Performs minor tune ups to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the equipment
- Understand system controls, operation, and configurations
- Perform equipment diagnostics for electrical and mechanical repairs on various construction equipment such as CAT, Komatsu, Case, John Deere
- Welding and fabrication for equipment repairs using various welding equipment such as MIG and ARC
- Experienced with CAT ET and related equipment diagnostic systems
- Create work and purchase orders for parts and materials required for equipment repairs
- Notate all diagnostics and repairs
- Communicate with operations and equipment personnel on all equipment deficiencies
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to quickly process information and make decisions
- Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks: organizational, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills
- Dependable and able to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team of individuals
- Ability to multitask and function well in a fast paced environment
- Proficient with diagnostic systems such as CAT ET or related software
- Extensive knowledge and experience of working on on various construction equipment such as CAT, Komatsu, Case, John Deere
- Mechanical, welding, and electrical experience is required
- Basic understanding of construction procedures, OSHA guidelines and construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have reliable transportation with the ability to travel extensively
- Must have the ability to work extended hours as required by the workload
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Other duties as assigned
