JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, procures, prepares, packages, and distributes and disposes medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
- Maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.
- Maintains competency and follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
- Properly operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment.
- Ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
- Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting.
- Responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.
- Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.
- Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area.
- Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.
- Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous prod.
- Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
- Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
- Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
- Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
- May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service.
- May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
