Description: JOB DESCRIPTION: Is assigned to a patient in the hospital setting to maintain a safe environment. Observes and reports any changes in the patient's condition to the nurse accountable for the patient's nursing care. Communicates with patient/family members and all members of the health team to relay appropriate information as part of patient care. As part of a patient focused service, promotes a supportive and healing environment so that customer and staff satisfaction are enhanced. Under the supervision of the patient's nurse, may assist with transportation of the patient throughout the hospital, ambulation of the patient, bedpan/bathroom functions, bathing, bed making, feeding, providing oral fluids to patient and positions for comfort. Ensures the neatness and cleanliness of patient's room. Supports cost efficient/effective patient care. Complies with Universal Precaution guidelines and all other infection control procedures and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment. May discard disposable supplies, assist with bedrails wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and bedpans, under the supervision of the patient's nurse. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year healthcare experience or one semester of clinical experience preferred. American Heart Associate BLS certification required. Completion of department orientation and training within 90 days of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
