Job Description

To collect charged off consumer loans and negative share accounts to minimize Ent's exposure to risk and loss and ensure maximum return to its members by following collection policies and procedures as well as adherence to State and Federal Laws. Furthermore, the Recovery Collector I is responsible for assisting with making timely collection calls per performance standards in a professional and non-aggressive (fair, yet firm) manner to minimize loss to our membership. This position will assist with working with charged off consumer loans and negative share accounts, and encourage Ent to be made whole while exploring pre-determined ways to help our members through acceptable payment arrangements. This position will undergo development to enhance skills and train to a become more advanced Recovery Collector using various collection techniques in order to work with delinquent consumer loans not only to collect the past due payments, but also explore pre-determined ways to help our members through loan modifications, deferment \ requests, referral to Green Path or credit counseling and payment arrangements.

Essential Functions

  • Early stage consultative collection role utilizing various resources to collect on past due accounts such as negotiating payment arrangements and negotiating payment options (i. e. automatic transfers / bill pay / payment by phone etc. ).
  • Interview members by phone, to determine financial hardships, find resolutions, and present payment options.
  • Provide support to co-workers
  • Bank Secrecy Act: Remains cognizant of and adheres to Ent policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Qualifications for the Collector I Position

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent
  • 1 years' customer service experience preferably within financial services.
  • 1 years' consultative financial services and/or collections experience. (Preferred)

Minimum Formal Qualifications for the Collector II Position

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent
  • 2 years' combined financial services experience with a focus on Collections, Mortgage Collections, Charge-off Collections, Bankruptcy, and/or Repossession to include at least:
  • 1 years' consultative financial services collections experience. 

Each year of relevant work experience may be exchanged for a year in a relevant degree program or vice versa. For example, a requirement of a bachelor's degree in accounting and 2 years of accounting experience could be substituted for a high school diploma and 6 years of relevant accounting work experience or a master's degree in accounting and 0 years of work experience.

Technical or Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Professional, diplomatic, and courteous communication skills are of critical importance.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of all transactions is of critical importance.
  • Proficient in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to learn and retain relevant collections law and policy in a short amount of time.
  • Predisposition for Creativity and Problem-Solving as applied to individual situations within relevant laws and guidelines.
  • Exposure to web-based transactional systems to complete day-to-day member requests.
  • (preferred) Able to use 10-Key by touch.

Additional Information

The pay range for the Collector I position is: $19.23 to $23.48  (S11)

The pay range for the Collector II position is: $20.41 to $25.82 (S12)

Final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors such as relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, certifications, and internal pay equity.

This position is eligible for a Collections bonus incentive plan.
