We are looking for Travel Installation Professionals to perform a variety of Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) services for homes and businesses as required by the specific market and or job site where they are deployed. These services may include underground drop installations, overhead drop installations or premise installations. Someone in this role must be able and willing to adapt to the market needs, be self-motivated, and comfortable interacting with customers and technology on a daily basis.

Skillset-Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
A: Splicing
- Safely and efficiently splice cables in residential and commercial environments.
- Performs skilled duties related to copper and fiber splicing, and preventive cable maintenance.
- Splice single drop fiber cables in all environments (aerial, buried, underground, and buildings).
- Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables.
- Prep and install both aerial and underground splice enclosures along with a variety of other closures common to the splicing and termination of fiber optic cables.
- Ability to fusion or mechanical splice SM or MM fiber optic cables, including terminating various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC, LC) for homes and businesses.
B: Underground Drop
- Safely and efficiently install underground cables in residential and commercial environments.
- Use best practices for installing underground wiring and not violate local building codes.
- Operate various trenching equipment such as a mini skid steer or walk beside trencher.
- Locate existing buried copper and fiber facilities and comply with 811 requirements (OneCall) before any digging projects, properly identifying other utility flags and safely working around other utilities.
- Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.
- Bury cable and conduit systems by operating blowing, plowing, digging, boring, and trenching equipment and pulling fiber and cable through conduit systems.
C: Overhead Drop
- Safely and efficiently install overhead cables in residential and commercial environments.
- Use best practices for installing underground wiring and not violate local codes and regulations or customer specs.
- Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.
- Hang overhead cable or strand using various methods including but not limited to a ladder, bucket truck or gaffs.
- Pull fiber and cable through conduit systems.
D: Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH)
- Completes installs, repairs and troubleshooting for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) customers.
- Completes installs for customers by installing fiber drops, network interface devices, ground wires, in-home wiring, station protectors, jacks, modems and wireless routers.
- Recognizes and understands how to configure the customer's equipment to connect to the internet via modem/wireless router. Installs indoor outlets and lines as needed and confirms they are secure.
- Connects home units to outside lines. Runs or installs new lines as needed.
- Understands, maintains and repairs existing equipment by using test sets to locate a line or equipment trouble and determine necessary repairs.
- Configures and installs fiber-to-the-home internet devices.
- Inspects connected devices for proper working conditions.
- Educates customers on the use of all installed or repaired products and services.
Requirements
- General knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Aptitude to read and interpret fiber records, staking sheets, specification sheets and circuit diagrams and splice fiber as directed.
- Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets the company’s minimum safety standards.
- Thorough understanding of hand tools and power tools.
- Proficient in Internet-related applications such as email and web browsers.
- In-depth understanding of technology-based services, products, and networking.
- Able to meet physical requirements: climb ladders, work in confined spaces and/or various heights, lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., squat, kneel, bend, crawl and stand for long periods of time.
- Enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather.
- Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to work.
Schedule: A Travel IP is dedicated and committed to working out of town in various markets full time as assigned by management for periods of over 30 days at a time. A Travel IP does not typically perform work within 75-miles of their home address but is typically assigned to an area (Market) that requires staying overnight away from their home each night while performing work for periods of time that may exceed 30 days. A Travel IP should expect to shift from market to market based on the current needs of the company. This position has scheduled furlough time at home between deployments that are typically no less than 7 days.
Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a pre-employment screen, including a drug test and an acceptable driving record.
