Sampling Specialist-GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Sampling Specialist you will travel to the field to pick up and/or obtain client samples for analysis in the laboratory. Follow specific instructions pertaining to the type of sample being collected and may involve aseptic techniques, client interviews, and/or digital photography. Apply quality principles and adhere to the laboratory's quality policy.

Coordinate with Oil & Gas Field Supervisor on executing plat sampling plans.
Assign individual plat assignments to the crew based on plat sampling plans.
Train new hires.
Perform special assignments for operators on drill pads, containment ponds, and remediation sites.
Meet with Oil & Gas Field Supervisor weekly to chart progress of overall sampling plan.
Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with crew to chart progress of sampling assignments.
Conduct, with Oil & Gas Field Supervisor, weekly meeting with crew to provide guidance and collect feedback for operations.
Assist Oil & Gas Field Supervisor with planning and implementation of new ideas or protocols as needed.
Follow pick-up schedule provided by Laboratory Manager and or Oil & Gas Field Supervisor.
Travel to pick up and/or collect client samples for analysis.
Follow specific instructions pertaining to the type of sample being collected which may involve aseptic techniques and client interviews.
Perform analysis of samples in the field including, but not limited to, pH, combustible gas index readings and flow readings.
Take digital photographs as required.
Communicate with the general public by scheduling appointments and conducting required interviews.
Complete appropriate related paper work as required.
Confirm projects and necessary paper work by communicating and interacting with Pre-Drill Coordinator, Laboratory Manager and/or Oil & Gas Field Supervisor.
Prepare bottleware orders including appropriate preservatives, labels, and packaging.
Comply with safety rules and regulations to include determining proper handling procedures of samples
Follow ESL and client directed safety protocols.
Perform additional projects as required.
Working Conditions - 90% of time spent in the field and traveling, with balance of time spent in laboratory/office work environment. Potential exposure to moving machinery, dust, noise, temperature changes, hazardous chemicals and outside nature and weather conditions. Requires extensive travel, overtime, evenings, and weekends. Due to nature of position, must be able to deal with meeting deadlines. Ability to perform under pressure and withstand weather and field conditions. While performing duties of job, incumbent is required to stand; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Some PPE required.
Qualifications - Strong computer skills. Education in GIS, Geology, Geography or related discipline preferred. Strong attention to detail as well as good written and verbal communication and effective listening skills with the ability to follow instructions. Must have ability to effectively verbally communicate with clients and the public. 2-3 years previous Sampling Specialist experience or equivalent required. Must have a safe driving record. Must have high level of understanding of ESL field services and operations requirements, strong follow through, attention to detail, effective communication skills, and be able to work independently or part of a team as well as lead a team of individuals, as well as keep the company functioning at its peak. Must be able to meet deadlines. Must be able to lift, push and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
Education requirements- High School, BS or BA in chemistry, biology, environmental science or related is a plus. Prior laboratory experience may substitute for degree.
