EPCORs Water Services (EWS) group has a full-time permanent opportunity for an experienced Control System Engineer to join the Customer Operations team working out of our Gold Bar  Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)  

  

In the Control Systems Engineer role you are accountable for performance of the duties required for the design and implementation of control systems which includes estimation, design, design reviews, procurement and coordination while achieving the required outcomes with time spans of up to 12 months.  

  

What you’d be responsible for 

  

As a Control Systems Engineer you will be accountable to the Manager, Instrument and Control, CAE and operate within the context and prescribed limits established by the Manager.  Your main accountabilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Identifying the necessary budget requirements for the provision of services and the estimation and delivery of Control Systems projects.
  • Engineering and technical services and equipment specifications related to the process control systems as per applicable standards (internal and external).
  • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. This will require the delivery of projects and support tasks within the estimated cost and schedule to meet customer requirements.
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing Control System processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
  • Providing successful design and implementation of upgrading or modification of existing Control Systems including:
    • project estimation
    • project specification
    • equipment specification and purchase
    • system programming design
    • loop and engineering drawings
    • control narratives
    • identification of alarm points and development of strategy testing and commissioning
  • Providing instrumentation and process control engineering support for process safety management programs including Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Pre-start-up & Safety Reviews (PSSRs), Management of Change (MOC) and commissioning activities to ensure safe integration of new and modified facilities and systems.
  • Promoting a safe work environment and supporting achievement of a “zero injury culture” by:
    • Focusing on peer-to-peer safety discussion and intervention
    • Participating hazard risk assessments and completing safe-work plans
    • Completing worksite inspections
    • Compliance with PPE requirements
    • Reporting using ERS if/when appropriate (ex. Near-miss)

  

What’s required to be successful 

  

Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are: 

  

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from a recognized educational institute.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or eligible for registration with APEGA.
    • If not registered with APEGA must be within 6 months of being hired.
  • Experience that includes:
    • 5 years of related engineering experience.
    • the development and execution of engineering projects.
    • creating and updating control system drawings in AutoCAD /SPI.
  • Solid understanding of Control System components and configuration.
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical documents.
  • Provide professional stamping of items as required.
  • Proven above average computer skills.

  

Experience in the following areas would be considered an asset 

  

  • Distributed Control Systems such as DeltaV
  • Project Management with automation scope
  • Advanced Control, AI/ML
  • Databases such as Wonderware, OSI PI etc.
