What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Grooming Instructor position at EPEC - The Grooming Project?

Position Purpose:

This position functions as a member of the grooming team, ensuring quality services and instruction to the students in a manner consistent with the expectations and standards established by EPEC’s Leadership and Governance.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • All aspects of grooming, as needed
  • Overseeing orientation
  • Curriculum development
  • Full command of grooming materials and content
  • Ability to instruct
  • Ability to complete student evaluations
  • Problem solving skills
  • Grading out students
  • Communication with lead grooming instructor and Director of Grooming
  • Student motivator
  • Check in of students
  • Cleaning, teamwork and multi-tasking
  • Assists in ordering supplies and equipment related to grooming
  • Teach dog behavior
  • Handling and safety (how to correctly walk and lift dogs)
  • Mix shampoos and conditioners
  • Bathing
  • Drying
  • Brushing/de-matting/de-shedding
  • Nails
  • Basic Use of 123 Pet software
  • Basic clipper work
  • Checking students clean up
  • Managing bathing room inventory
  • All aspects of grooming, as needed
  • Ability to instruct
  • Ability to complete student evaluations
  • Problem solving skills
  • Grading out students
  • Communication with bathing instructor, lead grooming instructor and Director of Grooming
  • Student motivator
  • Check in of students
  • Cleaning, teamwork and multi-tasking
  • Good communication skills with the students
  • Teaching of correct and thorough brushing/de-shedding/de-matting
  • Clipper work (Understanding and Maintenance of clippers, blades and comb attachments)
  • Writing of grooming instructions
  • Breed standard trims and usage of grooming books and tools
  • Balance and symmetry
  • Basics of scissor work
  • Safe and correct handling
  • Checking Paycom entries for their group
  • Checking of grooming notes
  • Checking student clean up

Collaborative:

  • In all areas and responsibilities, work collaboratively with peers, students, and program partners to achieve agency goals in a manner reflective of the mission of EPEC Inc

  • Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Determine strategies to move the school forward, set goals, create and implement action plans, and evaluate the process and results.
  • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a grooming capacity
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate after school hours via email and phone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, volunteers and clients of the organization.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
