What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Pediatric Rheumatology position at Equiliem?
SUMMARY: The Staff Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, oversees, coordinates, and provides focused, episodic care to Health patients. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Additional responsibilities include delegation, direction, and supervision of the activities of Health LPNs and non-nursing clinical staff to meet the needs of Health patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
2. Responsible for assisting with patients who are medically complex and/or have sensitive medical or social issues.
3. Reviews plan of care, meds/tests with physicians as needed.
4. Contacts pharmacy for prescription renewals for patients.
5. Documents all patient correspondence and correspondence with other pertinent health care providers.
6. Administers prescribed medications, teaches patients how to administer injectable medication.
7. Assists with the treatment and examination of patients'.
8. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients'.
9. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.
10. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
11. Documents all nursing history and assessment for patients in their charts.
12. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician, including patient and family instruction.
13. Reviews laboratory results and brings abnormal/critical results to the attention of the physician.
14. Answers all clinical phone calls, triages calls according to acuity, obtains history and with the physician develops/administers therapeutic plan.
15. Fills out school forms, Department of Children Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) forms, Social Security Forms, writes letters, reviews orders from home care/nursing agencies with physician.
16. Helps obtain precertification/authorization with insurance company prescribed medications or procedures.
17. Maintains proficiency in electronic medical records for documentation.
18. Schedules procedures and Radiology exams.
19. Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
20. Coordinates/participates in research studies.
21. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state compliance standards as they appear in RBHS' Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Interest policy.
22. Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
23. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN required). Must have at least two (2) years of experience as a RN, or 5 years experience as a LPN. The ability to function in a team environment is required. Basic word processing and computer skills are required.
