East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Utility Plant Supervisor! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the Utility Plant Supervisor, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable supervising and instructing Plant personnel in plant operation and maintenance. You will be an active member of the Facilities Management team overseeing and performing the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of a central boiler plant and the associated campus underground steam distribution and condensate return systems. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your supervisory skills and boiler operation/maintenance experience while maintaining all aspects of safety. To be successful in this role, you must be organized, flexible and able to juggle multiple priorities.
You will have a 40-hour per week schedule working Monday through Friday 7 am – 3:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Utility Plant Supervisor. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Create work schedules and develop and implement changes to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Prepare performance evaluations and counsel and coach employees on performance.
- Maintain overtime, leave and attendance records to plan manpower requirements, schedule leave and identify sick leave abuse.
- Plan and supervise training programs for subordinate personnel.
- Participate in responding to grievances concerning areas of responsibility.
- Supervise the operation, maintenance and repair of the Utility Plant and the steam distribution system including four high-pressure boilers and associated equipment in the Utility Plant, an automatic boiler in Dansbury Commons, and the underground steam distribution and condensate return collection systems including associated manholes.
- Develop, plan and implement operational procedures and facility projects related to areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for the procurement of materials necessary for day-to-day operational needs, such as supplies, preventive maintenance materials, equipment and tools. Maintain proper inventory of these items.
- Attend seminars to keep abreast of changes taking place in regulatory requirements and technology of boiler operation.
- Establish standard operating procedures to ensure boiler operation is at the highest possible efficiency and within limitations of operating permits. Provide guidance to Utility Plant personnel in the repair of equipment and systems. Oversee plant personnel in adjustment and repairs of boilers, pumps, auxiliary equipment, electrical systems, control systems and the steam distribution system.
- Perform changes, adjustments, edits and program electronic controllers and computer programs for boilers, water softener, level indicators and energy management computer programs that are used in the boiler plant. Review records of chemical testing on boilers, water softeners and condensate systems for proper chemical control. Review and maintain records and complete monthly reports of operating systems, boilers, steam produced, fuels used, etc.
- Ensure compliance with all operating permits and applicable regulations by record keeping, testing and monitoring all regulated Utility Plant systems.
- Establish work areas for utility plant employees and ensure performance standards are understood clearly. Maintain safe, clean and healthy work areas.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
- Minimum of five years’ experience in boiler operation and maintenance with three years in a supervisory capacity required. Must be a high school graduate; an associate degree or completion of a technical training program in an associated field is a plus.
- Four years of experience performing semi-skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional boiler plant systems and related equipment; or Two years of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 2.
- At least 2 years of experience using Microsoft Suite products in a professional work environment, including experience building spreadsheets in Excel.
- Valid Driver’s License.
