Description:
- Performs all aspects of Ultrasound Technology provided by the department, in accordance with the guidelines and policies established by the Ultrasound Department and in accordance with the American College of Radiology.
- Provides Lead Technologist information regarding daily operation of the department. Assists in maintaining data for Continuous Quality Improvement reporting.
- Through Lead Technologist coordinates with staff members for PTO and On-Call schedules.
- Helps ensure that all regulated Quality Control parameters are completed and data is available for review.
- Performs Ultrasound Technology that provides a high standard of patient care.
- Verifies patient identification and physicians orders for the procedure requested.
- Obtains brief clinical history pertinent to the type of examination requested.
- Reviews patient images with Imaging Physician to ensure completeness of exam requested.
- Properly performs Ultrasound procedures according to departmental protocols.
- Maintains order, safety and cleanliness of work areas.
- Follows infectious waste and hazardous waste procedures while maintaining aseptic technique.
- Ensures adequate stock of appropriate supplies for the work area.
- Performs quality control testing on Ultrasound machines in accordance with ACR and departmental guidelines.
- Utilizes all equipment properly.
- Reports faulty equipment to Lead Technologist or Imaging Manager immediately.
- Provides for physiological and psychological needs of each patient and their family while ultrasound examination is in progress, taking into account age-specific needs of the patient.
- Explains the examination to the patient.
- Technologist will not perform imaging without the direction of the Imaging Physician.
- Technologist will not perform imaging procedure without an order from a licentiate of the healing arts.
- Records appropriate information for completion of Ultrasound examination and data retention.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of EPIC, IDX, PACS, and computer systems as needed.
- Clinical and practical experience during Ultrasound Technology Training is essential. - Required
- Complies with all departmental, clinical policies and procedures that allow accreditation by the ACR (American College of Radiology). - Required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. - Required
- Knowledge of departmental computer systems operations is essential. - Required
- Maintains ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) certification. - Required
- The ability to work as a team member with other sonographers, ability to speak with radiologists as a professional and compassion towards patients - Required
