Buy Side is looking for an experienced writer to join our site in a part-time role, helping us build on and expand our personal finance coverage. We are looking for a writer who is already comfortable writing about the broad range of personal finance topics and who can produce a fast story tied to the latest Fed hike that tells how it will hit your wallet or quickly scan the terms of a buzzy new credit card to see if it's really worth readers’ time.
This role will require familiarity with both news reporting and optimizing your writing for search. It’s ideal for an experienced personal finance freelancer, with a deep list of contacts, who is looking for a regular gig producing two to three assignments per week.
The ideal candidate is motivated, hands on and happy to experiment and work as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Experience with writing about money topics including, interest rate changes*** investing,
- mortgages and taxes
- Ability to turn around one-day stories based on phone interviews
- Ability to write longer explainer type stories and well-researched “best” lists comparing
- products such as credit cards or savings accounts

Responsibilities
- We are looking for an experienced, part-time financial writer to cover topics ranging from Fed moves to real estate to credit cards
- Produce two to three assignments per week
- Assignments will include quick hit news stories with quotes from sources such as economists, fund managers and financial advisors
- Assignments will also include updating longer evergreen stories with new information such as updated prices and new picks for best lists
- 5 to 10 years of experience in business or personal finance journalism, with some experience covering news
- Comfort with writing about money topics including, interest rate changes*** investing,
- mortgages and taxes
- Ability to turn around one-day stories based on phone interviews
- Ability to write longer explainer type stories and well-researched “best” lists comparing
- products such as credit cards or savings accounts
- Familiarity with service journalism, guiding readers to make complex financial decisions
- Familiarity with SEO best practices, such as writing search-friendly headlines and organizing stories through SEO-friendly subheads, without sacrificing writing quality
