Job Description
Eurofins BDI is a technology-based diagnostic services laboratory for agriculture focusing on the inputs (seed and genetically propagated material). We are the only independent agricultural product testing lab that offers seed quality, genomics, plant health services, and diagnostic products to the seed and plant industry. We help clients make objective product decisions that manage risk, ensure quality, and improve genetics.
The Seed Health group at EBDI is seeking a full-time employee to oversee the testing program and to modernize all seed health units with advanced molecular techniques or improved classical methods.
- This position ensures the quality of testing in the lab as well as implementing new molecular techniques into various tests in order to streamline the process for utmost accuracy and timely delivery while upholding our standards for superior customer service and quality.
- The position requires the applicant to assist in the establishment of long-term and short-term strategic goals and carrying out department goals and vision.
- The position is responsible to develop strategies to improve testing procedures, which will ensure quality and reliability in a high-throughput, cost effective manner.
- R&D and execution of new molecular technology in bacteriology, mycology and virology is an essential part of the position.
- The successful applicant will become the face of EBDI to the seed health scientific community and will be an integral part of organizations such as the International Seed Health Initiative (ISHI) and will interact with the National Seed Health System (NSHS).
Qualifications
- Candidates must possess an MS or higher degree in plant pathology, with emphasis on bacteriology techniques, as well as experience in the agriculture industry.
- Deep knowledge and experience with PCR, Real Time PCR, RT-PCR, DNA/RNA sequencing, including NGS technologies and other molecular techniques is required.
- Experience with pathogen culture and storage, as well as plant disease diagnostics is required.
- The successful candidate will have excellent customer service skills, will be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised and will be able to work successfully with the Seed Health Team.
- Demonstrated skills in managing a diverse staff is necessary.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is essential.
- The position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week and the ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed.
