Technical Writer Job Description
Because of our commitment to delivering exceptional customer value, EverLine is looking to hire its first technical writer with structured authoring and Component Content Management System (CCMS) experience. The ideal candidate will be familiar with developing and managing document and content taxonomies and working with DocBook/XML-based tools.
This role, reporting to the Director/VP level, will work collaboratively with SMEs across the EverLine business to build and manage a content database.
Objectives/Responsibilities
· Contribute to the implementation of a component content management system (CCMS).
· Gain an understanding of the types of content and media that EverLine currently develops for both internal and client use.
· Develop a content taxonomy to bring existing and new materials into the CCMS.
· Establish style guides, publication targets and data sets for single-source/structured authoring with content reuse a primary focus.
· Develop and maintain detailed database of relevant industry publications for reference/inclusion in EverLine-generated content.
· Evaluate current content and develop innovative methods for improvement to EverLine’s service offerings pertaining to content authoring, review, and circulation.
· Research, outline, write, and edit content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements.
· Gather information from subject-matter experts and develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
· Work with development and support leads to identify documentation repositories, revise, and edit, and determine best solutions for data compilation and centralized storage.
· Research, create, and maintain information architecture templates that adhere to organizational and regulatory standards and allow for ease of use and upkeep.
· Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with consistent voice across all documentation.
Required skills and qualifications
· Two or more years of experience as an effective technical writer.
· Experience with structured authoring, Doc Books, XML and or CMS/CCMS systems.
· Proven ability to quickly learn the basics of energy-industry technical subject matter.
· Experience in writing documentation for various audiences.
· Superb written communication skills, with a focus on consistency and quality.
· Experience in working with subject matter experts to bring expertise to life in technical documentation, inclusive of visual elements.
Preferred skills and qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in journalism, communications, or relevant technical field or Professional certification (ex: Society for Technical Communication).
· Previous experience in energy and/or infrastructure industries.
· Experience with Paligo preferred but not required.
Work Environment:
The employee will work predominantly in an office environment, utilizing standard office and computing equipment. At times, the employee may be required to visit an operational location that requires following safety and PPE, such as FR clothing, hard hat, boots. Less than 25% travel. Standard work hours.
If working remotely, the employee will be required to support video teleconferencing when applicable, as well as attend teleconference meetings originating in other time zones, which may occur outside normal working hours. The employee will interface with remote employees, requiring reliance on email and phone communications, as well as ability to maintain productivity while working autonomously.
