Excel Academy was founded in 2003 with the mission to provide a high-quality education to students in East Boston and Chelsea Massachusetts, communities that are predominantly low-income and Latinx and historically have faced significant social and educational barriers. Over the years, we have grown from one middle school to a network of four schools with 1,400 students in grades 5 to 12. In the fall of 2022 we will welcome a founding class of 5th graders to help us launch Excel Academy Rhode Island. By 2032, Excel Rhode Island will run 4 schools serving over 2,100 students from Providence, Central Falls, and North Providence.

About the Role 

The Instructional Technology Assistant role is a part-time, hourly position through the 2021-2022 school year providing technical support to ensure high-quality technology access for students and teachers. This role provides an opportunity to gain skills in educational technology and customer service systems.

As a member of the Network Operations Team, this individual will report directly to the Manager of Technology.

Schedule

The schedule for this role is flexible and will include 10 to 25 hours of on-site work per week.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain student Chromebook devices: Ensure a high-quality device in every student’s hands throughout the school year by maintaining quality of devices. Specific duties include: assess devices, complete repairs, escalate repairs when appropriate, maintain documentation, and complete set-up of new machines as needed.
  • Manage tasks within the Instructional Tech team’s ticketing system to ensure timely response to issues and requests, including troubleshooting and repairs of miscellaneous hardware including classroom projectors and document cameras.
  • Provide ad hoc project support to the Manager of Technology to ensure that team goals are met:
    • Maintain high quality student Chromebooks for every student in our schools;
    • Support schools with ensuring that inventory is maintained using the Google Admin Console;
    • Support school staff with GoGuardian monitoring platform;
    • Maintain and update documentation on systems and processes; and
    • Provide technical support to instructional staff for instructional technology assets.
  • Serve as a productive member of Excel’s Network Team; and
  • Serve as a productive member of the Excel Community.


Qualifications

  • At least two years of prior work experience, ideally customer service or customer support
  • A strong customer service orientation
  • Strong organizational skills and written communication skills
  • Flexible mindset and interest to take on new problems and challenges
  • Interest in and hunger to learn about technology troubleshooting, hardware repair, and administration
  • High school diploma required; associate’s degree preferred
  • A commitment to and belief in all students and the mission of Excel Academy Charter Schools, including Excel’s values and educational model


Preference will be given to applicants who also:

  • Have experience in a public or charter school setting;
  • Speak Spanish, Portuguese and/or Arabic;
  • Can speak to the importance of rigorous classroom instruction and culture.
