Our Client is an established construction management, design/build firm and general contractor who is looking for a LEAD ESTIMATOR to join their team of top professionals on Long Island.
Job Description:
The Lead Estimator, will generate and manage estimates required for pre-construction and bidding efforts. The Lead Estimator provides estimates, budget control, bid coverage and procurement projects and potential projects during pre-construction and construction phases of a project and across all scopes, systems, and assemblies. Estimates vary from conceptual to lump sum bids. Ability to complete full quantity take-offs to support accurate estimates for all disciplines in commercial projects including, but not limited to civil and site work, structural, concrete, envelope, finishes, mechanical, and electrical. A complete understanding of the interrelationship of the cost of labor, material, equipment, and productivity in the unit costs used at each level of an estimate is expected.

Scope of work-Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work. Develop project specific trade scopes. Knowledge of rules and regulations for AHJ.

Quantity Take-offs-Executes quantity take-offs of construction documents.

Manage Trade Coverage-Manage subcontractor database and contact information.

Communication -Manage communications with design team, subcontractors, and in-house staff. Obtains cost proposals from subcontractors. Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
- Oversight of MWBE Compliance and Coverage.

Preparation of Cost Analysis-Prepares cost analysis in computer by outlining material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items and organizing them on company server.

Bid Process Leadership-Lead project estimate process. Oversight of trade bid list and coverage. Complete final bid for review with Director of Estimating.

Presentations-Prepare estimate presentations, special studies, budget control reports and estimating documents for projects and client presentations.

Estimating- Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.

Resource Development and Maintenance-Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
- Attends departmental meetings as required.

Supervision- Supervises support staff and provides mentoring/training to ensure progress growth of skill set in Estimating.

Analysis-Analyzes architectural blueprints. Understanding of GC’s, GR’s and project specific requirements. Edit/amend trade specific boiler plate template scopes.
- Knowledgeable and able to operate computer programs including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel & Word, SmartBid and Onscreen.
- May visit field of active projects.

- Bachelor’s degree in construction management architecture, engineering or equivalent.
- 5 years experience with the bid process, working on estimates including conceptual, ground up and major projects.
- Mastery of super structure, site and MEP trades, and AHJ.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and applicable estimating software.
