Position Summary:
The Controller is accountable for the financial and risk management operations of the company. This includes the development and successful implementation of financial and operational policies, metrics tied to driving financial performance, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate and meaningful financial results.
Support Team:
The Controller will report directly to the CEO and will work closely with the owners, the accounting manager, and the accounting team daily.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively administers the financial information to allow for development of the company's financial documents.
- Maintains the company's chart of accounts in conjunction with the outside accounting firm.
- Manages the process of improving working capital.
- Assembles and transmits information needed by the outside accountants for preparation of year-end financial and tax statements.
- Participates in annual accounting reviews and audits.
- Performs compliance reporting for bank vendors and makes key decisions to ensure that contractual expectations are being met.
- Work directly with project managers to establish, manage, monitor, and forecast project budgets, estimated cost at completion, and project level cash flow.
- Work directly with the CEO and COO to develop project level margin plans and conduct revenue and budget forecasting.
- Generates reports to assist the managerial team using financial analytics.
- Direct, coordinate, and oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely financial management reports including internal and external monthly financial statements.
- Prepare procedures with checks and balances to maintain check register and running balance of accounts.
- Maintains the property and casualty insurance working through the third-party administrator.
- Prepares accurate and timely operational reports such as:
- Aging of Accounts Payable
- Unit and Job Costing Reports
- Monthly Financial Statements
- Monthly Variance Reports
- Develop an efficient system of reports working with the department heads using the accounting system to maintain control of profitable company growth.
- Implement regular meetings to inform and direct departments on areas of improvement.
- Completion of any duty which by its nature falls within the domain of this position and other duties assigned by the CEO and COO.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Minor in business a plus.
- Ten years of progressive experience in accounting and finance in the manufacturing industry.
- At least five years of supervisory experience in the accounting and finance arena.
- Strong initiative to motivate department heads towards accomplishing company goals.
- Professionalism, quality, accuracy, timeliness, reliability, and thoroughness of work performed.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a sense of urgency in sorting discrepancies.

- Thorough knowledge of GAAP, tax and audit reporting regulations, and record retention requirements.
- Advanced knowledge in Sage and Crystal Reports or similar accounting and financial systems.
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Knowledge of Innergy woodworking software would be a plus.
