The Administrative Assistant for the Northwest New Jersey Small Business Development Center (NW NJSBDC) provides advanced and diversified administrative support and assistance to the Regional Director and the Center as a whole. Primary responsibilities include supporting the day-to-day operations, as well as providing customer service to new and ongoing small business clients, community organizations and stakeholders.
The Administrative Assistant for the Northwest New Jersey Small Business Development Center (NW NJSBDC) provides advanced and diversified administrative support and assistance to the Regional Director and the Center as a whole. Primary responsibilities include supporting the day-to-day operations, as well as providing customer service to new and ongoing small business clients, community organizations and stakeholders.
This position is required to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and private information and a customer-service focus while carrying out job responsibilities and will conduct business in a manner that will uphold the integrity and reputation of Fairleigh Dickinson University Northwest New Jersey Small Business Development Center. This position maintains a thorough working knowledge of and adheres to the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Center.
1. High School degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. A minimum of two years of administrative experience, preferably in a complex office environment, including office oversight responsibilities, experience with budget maintenance, and demonstrating strong organizational effectiveness and the ability to coordinate special programs and events.
3. Knowledge or experience working with small businesses, entrepreneurs or community organizations preferred.
4. Proficient knowledge of administrative and/or clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
5. Computer proficiency for word processing, spreadsheets, and data management required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) required. Knowledge of Constant Contact, Adobe Suite, etc. preferred.
6. Must possess strong time management, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively and responsively with a diverse population with sensitivity to client needs.
7. Ability to handle a high volume of phone calls and personal contacts with clients in a professional manner and communicate clearly and concisely.
8. Ability to handle sensitive issues with decorum and maintain confidentiality.
9. Willingness and ability to occasionally work non-standard hours including evenings and weekends.
10. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
