Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the supervision of the Unit Director and/or Nursing Supervisor, coordinates & supervises the patient care team on an assigned unit. The Charge Nurse (CN) is responsible for: daily operation of the unit (s), supervision & assignment of all patient care team members. The CN assesses the overall needs of the unit related to patient acuity & staffing and coordinates with the unit director & nursing supervisor. The CN collaborates with the Nursing Supervisor & Unit director for participation in quality improvement, assists with the assessment of educational opportunities, and provides hands-on patient care coaching. The CN is responsible to meet all, but not to perform on a daily basis, job duties as outlined in their respective unit Registered Nurse job description, when required by patient or unit needs, as well as those listed in this job description.
What you will do in this role:
- Coordinates daily unit operations in collaboration with other members of the patient care team.
- Supports the facility ICARE Mission, Vision/Values through a positive interaction with staff, physicians, patients, and families.
- Locates & interprets hospital policies & procedures to physicians, nursing staff, patients, visitors, & other hospital personnel.
- Completes patient & employee notification reports within 24 hours of incident.
- Collaborates with Admissions, Nursing Supervisor, Nursing Units & ED to ensure prompt & appropriate patient placement.
- Maintains complete staff/patient assignment records 100% of the time. Assigns staff according to staff abilities & skills and the patient acuity level.
- Participates in performance improvement activities every month.
- Facilitates student/preceptee and preceptor assignments and learning opportunities.
- Facilitates cohesiveness of the patient care team.
- Manages unit personnel activities.
- Ensures completion of daily staffing sheets.
- Collaborates with Nursing director and Nursing Supervisor to plan staffing needs.
- Sets priorities for the unit; coaches the team to ensure successful completion of tasks.
- Provides input for the completion of unit schedules.
- Actively promotes positive intra & interdepartmental activities of the unit
What qualifications you will need:
- Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
- Registered Nurse
- Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree
- Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
