What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Teacher position at Faith Academy?
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Have at least 2 years of experience as a child care teacher in a licensed child care center or other approved setting.
- Must be on a full time status.
- Background Information Disclosure completed prior to the employee's first day of employment and yearly thereafter.
- Physically and emotionally able to care for all children, including children with disabilities.
- Certificate of completed department-approved Shaken Baby Training
- Current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training within 6 months of hire.
- Receive a certificate from The Registry within 3 months of assuming the position.
- Must participate in a minimum of 25 hours of training in early childhood education each year
- Meet one (1) of the following requirements:
- Have a current CDA Certificate or a signed contract to complete the CDA program within 1 year of assuming the position.
- Completed department approved early childhood classes and must have 80 working days in a childcare center full time or 120 working days part time and any age-specific department courses as well.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and conduct education programs for young children.
- Maintain licensing standards
- Encourage children to question and explore the world in which they live
- Help integrate children with special needs
- Design and maintain an engaging learning environment
- Observe children to evaluate and record their progress and hold parent teacher conferences at least 2 times per year
- Plan activities using a variety of materials and equipment to develop good coordination, social skills, creativity, self-expression and an interest in learning and compile appropriate documentation in an individualized portfolio
- Promote Christian spiritual life values and teach basic Christian stories
- Promote an awareness and appreciation of the multicultural society in which we live
- Promote health and safety concepts and social interaction with other children
- Supervise and participate with children in classroom, playground and fieldtrips
- Promote language development and self-confidence through storytelling, drama, music and discussions
- Work with co-teachers, assistant teachers cooperatively and coach when needed
- Work collaboratively with various professionals to assist children with special needs
- Assist children with their toileting and other personal matters
- Attend to sick children and those in need of first aid
- Comfort children who are hurt or distressed
- Discuss with parents and other educators aspects of the child's development
- Discuss with parents the aims of the education program
- Conduct daily health checks of children
- Attend regular staff meetings and in-service trainings
- Enforce any age appropriate disciplinary actions
- Communicates expectations clearly
- Properly documents all medical, accidents, emergencies, and medication
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequently lifts, carries, moves and positions children and objects weighing 5-50 lbs.
- Frequently bends, kneels, and crouches.
- Sits on floor with children frequently throughout the day.
- Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs. For example: sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping.
- Continuous walking, crouching, standing and moving about.
- Exposure to sunshine, rain, snow, odors, dust, urine, vomit, fecal matter, spit and nasal discharge.

Pay: $13.00 - $16.50 per hour
