Reporting to the US Chief People Officer, the Human Resources Business Partner will work closely with the practice group leader for the General Transactions practice groups in providing full-cycle human resources support that aligns with Firm goals, assist in enhancing organizational effectiveness and offer high quality support to all colleagues. The role will support the practice group associates and work within alongside the US Human Resources team. Partnering with Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Total Rewards, HR Operations and Diversity and Inclusion will be paramount to this role’s success. The successful candidate will be service minded and a team player. The position will support colleagues located in Washington DC, New York and Silicon Valley. Key responsibilities and deliverables Consult with Practice Group Leaders, Partners and Management and provide daily HR guidance Respond to general HR queries from colleagues Analyze trends and metrics to support databased decision making Resolve complex employee relations issues and address grievances Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention Provide HR policy guidance Manage the appraisal process, annual and interim, for fee earners, ensuring meaningful feedback is included and all colleagues have appraisal discussions Identify training needs for teams and individuals. Partner with L&D to move from needs analysis to reality Suggest new HR strategies Key requirements (Communication/skills/experience) Bachelor’s degree required At least 5 years of experience in HR, Talent, or Legal Personnel in a law firm required Experience working with associate populations and managing their bonus and compensation process Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters and respond effectively to such situations Knows when to decide and when to consult Ability to create meaningful rapport with partners, attorneys, staff and external parties Ability to maintain a positive and respectful attitude as well as a professional presence Strong communication skills both verbal and written Experience with Workday or other HR systems For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York and California, Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
