What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Architectural Designer position at Federal Heath?
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Senior Architectural Designer is responsible for producing high quality project design deliverables in multiple phases of Architectural Design. Senior Architectural Designer will work on any/all phases of development including Conceptual Design, Schematic Design, Design Development and Project Administration. Position reports to the VP of Design on tasks and deliverables and works in conjunction to ensure the facilitation of a project’s completion: on-time, on/under- budget, and meeting Federal Heath’s quality standards.
Conceptual:
- Bring great, fresh ideas to the team that are project appropriate.
- Develop vignettes and hand sketches of architectural ideas that work in the space and meet intended design goals.
- Create “scalable” concepts that suit real world budgets and roll outs.
- Understand the construction/build process and become familiar with Federal Heath’s capabilities in products and fabrication.
- Articulate why concepts work to the team using sound, logical reasoning based on the psychology of consumer behaviors.
- Produce concept boards of images for feedback and approval from the VP of Design and clients, which capture the intended look and attitude based on the project program with architecture, color, finish materials, and branding.
- Select in-budget materials and finishes that support the concepts.
- Maintain/Schedule reps/resources for the ongoing maintenance of the Resource Library.
- Consistently incorporate scale and balance, designing elements that ‘fit’ the space for maximum impact
- Design holistically, not just segmentally, so that spaces flow consistently, areas tie together for maximum impact and secondary focal points are established and used to build upon the underlying look and attitude.
- Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD, Sketchup and rendering programs. Knowledge in Photoshop and Illustrator is preferred.
- Regularly follow trends in architecture, and interior design, specifically in Retail/Restaurant &Hospitality, so that work and ideas are of an ‘international’ caliber and level of sophistication.
Implementation:
- Ensure quality and efficiency for assigned tasks and deliverables; maintain billable efficiency rates.
- Actively work on high-level tasks and deliverables for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Perform red line markups and pickups of delegated work and/or complete packages of deliverables.
- Produce sets of production documents in Conceptual through Design Development phases.
- Maintain a daily task list for assigned projects discussing time allotments, schedules, and delegations.
- Assist project teams, Sales, Marketing, Operations to ensure all aspects of design and implementation are being met.
- Prepare for regular project team meetings pertaining to project tasks, deliverables, and milestones.
- Communicate directly with Client agents, subcontractors, and architects
- Incorporate finish materials, their required applications, and their installation requirements into drawings and plans.
- Analyze photos, sketches, cut sheets, and details of cabinetry/millwork, ceiling elements, specialty components to determine their fabrication technique; then be able to value engineer ideas utilizing Federal Heath’s products and fabrication techniques.
- Verify that applicable building codes, ADA codes and construction techniques are satisfactorily addressed.
- Understand and be able to design/implement retail merchandising systems and methods of merchandising.
Furniture, Fixtures, & Equipment (FF&E) Requirements:
- Independently produce sets of quality documents/details and issue DD drawings that are within budget and meet operational needs and require few questions from outside agents.
- Apply knowledge of Federal Heath’s manufacturing and their products, fabrication techniques, finish requirements and ability to deliver quality products on schedule and per budget.
- Lay out, select, detail, and specify appropriate fixtures and hardware including Federal Heath proprietary product lines, CoLite, WallMaker, Signage, etc.; then note and document for proper fabrication and installation.
- Review shop drawings and samples to ensure drawings and finishes match specifications of designs that are:
- Detailed and noted in order to minimize questions from outside agents.
- Consider applicable value engineered alternatives and operational needs for products being designed and specified.
- Apply knowledge of fabrication techniques for all FF&E and how to achieve a wide array of designs when creating detailed specs for fabrication.
- Quickly locate and select systems and materials due to in-depth knowledge of FH products and fabrication.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 10 Years of Experience
- This position will provide hands on expertise in Architectural Planning, including Programming, Conceptual Design, Schematic Design, Design Development as well as Millwork/Fixture Development with Real World Problem Solving, and Business Strategy.
- Knowledge and software in AutoCAD, Sketchup & Render Program, Microsoft & Adobe Creative Suite.
