What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sommelier position at Fia Restaurant?
Fia Restaurant is a Santa Monica dining institution, approaching its five-year anniversary. A recipient of Wine Spectator’s 2024 Best of Award of Excellence, Fia’s cellar is a wine lover’s dream.
Michelin Recognized, we focus on what we call Coast to Coast cuisine, that is the Amalfi Coast, meets the California Coast. An indoor / outdoor venue, Fia features one of the most beautiful gardens in Los Angeles, in what is an always bustling, yet chill environment.
Our sister restaurant, Fia Steak, is also Michelin recognized, and is an intimate and luxurious upscale dining experience, with a Rock-n-Roll edge.
We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Sommelier, who is comfortable in both environments. The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented hospitality professional, with a flair for service.
A Sommelier who is creative, outgoing, professional, and engaging, and understands that building confidence and trust, is at the forefront of the job.
Fia’s unique fine-dining restaurant group with two locations side-by-side requires a flexible individual, who can pivot and be comfortable selling bottles of wine that range from $50 to over $5,000. The goal is to meet the guests needs, not educate them.
The Sommelier is responsible for ensuring that guests are hosted with genuine care and attention throughout his/her/their dining experience. This individual assists with all wine inventory, storage, and serving for the restaurant and keeps the lead sommelier and management up to date on the progress of item changes and issues. As an integral part of a team, the Sommelier is responsible for continuously looking for ways to improve each guest's experience, from greeting through service, pace, teamwork, menu knowledge, and thoughtful anticipation of the guest's needs. The role will serve as a FOH representative of our brand, and as such, must be willing to participate in all areas of service, including bussing and resetting tables, running food, taking orders, and more. The ideal Sommelier has a "can-do" attitude and be willing to jump in and help as needed in the restaurant. The Sommelier is also responsible for motivating and mentoring the staff's wine knowledge and delighting guests with their wine knowledge, and descriptions of wine pairings for the menu. With a Michelin-rated expectation, we are looking for a professional who is seeking 100% guest and team member satisfaction.
Fia is also open to hiring a dual role Sommelier / Manager / AGM position
