JOB DESCRIPTION FOR CHURCH CUSTODIAN

First Christian Church has various events and activities through the week in addition to our regular worship services. It is imperative that we maintain a safe and clean environment for the safety of all who use our facilities and the custodian position is critical in accomplishing this.

CUSTODIAN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The church custodian is responsible for regular cleaning to keep the building and property in clean and orderly condition. Tasks include, but are not limited to, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, gathering and emptying trash receptacles, cleaning, sanitizing, and supplying toiletries for the restroom facilities, dusting furniture, walls, and equipment, cleaning windows, and mirrors, and other occasional heavy cleaning duties as needed.. A detailed work matrix is included below.

The custodian also helps manage inventory of cleaning supplies and notifies the church regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.

WORK HOURS & BENEFITS

This a part-time position with flexible hours. The custodian will have to coordinate their duties around the activities of the church. The custodian can complete their tasks at their own convenience and report hours worked to the church secretary. Rate of pay is $500 per month.

The custodian reports primarily to the Property Committee but is also under the direction of the Minister and Personnel Committee. The candidate will have a 90-day probation period after which the Personnel Committee and Minister will perform a review. These entities will also perform an annual review of the candidate. The candidate must be trustworthy and self-motivated and will be subject to a background check and drug screening.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

The custodian must have experience with cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions. They must follow procedures for the safe and proper use of chemical cleaners. Physical requirements are the ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours and to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time. The job occasionally requires the ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at elevated heights from time to time

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The custodian must be able to report work performed as well as articulate any needs such as tools or supplies that are required to perform their required tasks effectively.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent

CHURCH CUSTODIAN DUTIES

WEEKLY

Pick up trash around parking lot

Sweep walks and entranceways

Clean glass on both entranceways

Dust around entrance doors and kick plates

Empty all trash receptacles

Vacuum floors

Remove trash from pews

Sanitize doorknobs and light switches

Clean tables in the fellowship hall and Sunday school rooms

Sweep and mop all hard floors

Clean mirrors in restrooms

Stock restrooms with soap, paper towels and toilet tissue

Clean counters in kitchen

Clean water fountains

MONTHLY

Dust walls and around lights and stained-glass windows

Dust table and coat rack in the Narthex

Dust the pews, sound booth and pulpits

Dust the blinds in church offices and Sunday School rooms

Wipe down walls and partitions in rest rooms

Pour water in restroom and kitchen floor drains

QUARTERLY

Dust baseboards and door frames

Dust vents

Clean windows inside and out in Sunday school rooms

Vacuum back hallway leading to the baptistry

Clean Freezer and Refrigerator

Clean Kitchen Cabinets

Job Type: Part-time
