First Methodist of China Grove

First Methodist Church is a thriving multi-generational congregation in the small town of China Grove, NC. Our church is affiliated with the Global Methodist Church and our mission is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ that worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly”. We currently have two worship services on Sunday: 9am Contemporary and 11am traditional. We are a growing church with many young families and children. Our average worship attendance is over 300.

Job Description and Duties

· Be an advocate for children and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns, and needs of children in the local church and surrounding community.

· Cultivate relationships with children for the sake of their faith development.

· Lead the planning, development, and implementation of all aspects of a balanced children’s ministry in the areas of worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach.

· Establish a team consisting of parents/volunteers/pastor, to help develop programs that will enhance the children’s ministry of the church.

· Work with the staff to provide MinistrySafe training, organization, and recruitment.

· Assist the Pastor with teaching Confirmation classes and provide leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom.

· Present to the Committee of Finance (and manage) the children’s ministry budget.

· Give a monthly report (verbally) to the Administrative Board.

· Provide caring support and resources to children’s families.

· Develop and implement curriculum for Kids Alive, Children’s Church and Vacation Bible School.

· Enlist and empower laity in teaching children’s Sunday school.

· Develop and implement training for acolytes.

· Develop and implement special events, such as Christmas celebrations.

· Attend children’s events beyond church ministries regularly.

· Partner with Director of Youth Ministry as needed.

· Coordinate and order Sunday School literature/curriculum for all ages as needed.

Qualifications

· A strong relationship with Jesus Christ and a calling to serve in children’s ministry.

· Preferred bachelor’s degree.

· At least 3 years of experience in children’s education/ ministry.

· ​Possess the ability to embrace innovation and creativity, while adapting to growth and change.

· ​Possess the ability to use appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.

· ​Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

· Possess strong communication skills with volunteers and parents.

· Pay: $20,000- $24,000

· Expected Hours: 20 -25 hours a week.
