POSITION SUMMARY:
First Responder EMS as part of Butte County EMS is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the positions of Full-Time and Part-Time EMT. Under the supervision of a Paramedic, the EMT is an individual who is educated and trained in all aspects of pre-hospital basic life support; whose scope of practice is to provide basic life support in accordance with the standards prescribed by Title 22 of the Health and Safety Code, and who has a valid license pursuant to Title 22.
HOURS OF WORK:
Shift assignment Work the schedule aligned with the shift they are assigned. Hours vary based on schedule and location. Personnel in Per Diem Status are required to work 20 hours per 2 week pay period.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities my include, but are not limited to the following:
- Respond as assigned to Emergency and non-Emergency calls for service.
- Assess patient status and communicate status to other team/staff members.
- Responsible for carrying out the mission of the Department and adherence to the organizations values.
- Performs patient interventions, within the scope of practice and in accordance with regional policies and procedures, to treat patient problems or monitor for potential problems.
- Perform vehicle inventory/inspection within 2 hours of assigned shift start time.
- Maintains a working orientation of major streets and locations.
- Maintains appropriate radio communications with Dispatch Center and other agencies, utilizing clear text at all times.
- Participates in ambulance demonstrations to the general public, groups, or civic organizations.
- Performs station chores daily.
- Assures ambulance and equipment is cleaned at start of shift and kept clean during remainder of shift.
- Completes all paperwork during assigned shift, and in accordance with State Law and LEMSA requirements.
- Communicates with oncoming crews regarding issues specific to assigned station/vehicle.
- Monitor Safe Work Practices/Biohazard issues in the workplace.
- Foster improved relations between Butte EMS, area hospitals and allied agencies
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 21 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician
- Valid California Drivers License
- Valid Ambulance Drivers License
- Valid Medical Examiners Certificate
- Valid CPR Card
- LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Upon appointment: Will be a certified EMT, fulfilling all of the requirements of the EMT Job Description. Within 6 months of appointment: Will complete:
- ICS 100
- IS 700
- Hazmat FRO
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
POSITION REQUIRES GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH:
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Principles and practices of customer service.
- Emergency radio communications.
- Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
- California vehicular laws related to operation of ambulances.
- Emergency vehicle maintenance and safe operations including use of emergency medical equipment.
- Applicable federal, state and county regulations, practices and procedures.
