About the Opportunity

This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]


This individual provides support to the Legal Department and other departments throughout the Company in various legal and regulatory matters. All tasks are performed under the direction or supervision of an attorney.


Responsibilities include:


  • Preparing drafts of legal documents, such as routine pleadings and appearance notices, as well as case summaries and other similar documents
  • Administering client companies’ defense of formal complaint proceedings as directed by attorney, including coordination with affected business units
  • Filing pleadings, applications and other documents with the appropriate court or administrative agency, as directed by an attorney
  • Conducting legal research, including the use of Lexis and other resources
  • Assisting in-house counsel or interfacing with outside counsel, as appropriate, in the discovery process, including drafting answers to interrogatories; drafting answers to requests to produce documents; collecting and reviewing documents in response to such requests
  • Retrieving information from agency or court files and dockets
  • Coordinating file management, including organization, tracking and monitoring of litigation of regulatory cases

Qualifications


  • ABA Paralegal Certification or equivalent is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree in a related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years related work experience is required. Related work experience includes legal research, document preparation, and providing direct attorney assistance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Sharepoint, OneDrive, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat); experienced with Lexis and Westlaw products.
  • SAP and PACER experience helpful
  • Experience in working with state public utility commissions preferred
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize assignments
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent proofreading skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work flexible hours when needed
