The Advanced Policy & Support Specialist performs research and analyses necessary to develop the company's positions on legislative, regulatory, or governmental executive branch issues that have the potential to impact FirstEnergy.
This position is designated as “mobile” and can be sited anywhere within the FirstEnergy service territory (OH, WV, MD, PA & NJ).
Responsibilities include:
- Performing research and analyses necessary to develop the company's positions on legislative, regulatory, or governmental executive branch issues that have the potential to impact FirstEnergy
- Documenting, providing, and packaging justification and rationale for the company's positions
- Preparing supporting materials that communicate the company's positions to policy makers
- Taking ownership of assigned legislative, regulatory, or governmental executive branch issues and writing advocacy positions for use by lobbyists in the state capitals
- Drafting policy proposals to advance in the public policy process
- Working closely with appropriate Subject Matter Experts (SME) to understand the implications of public policy proposals for the company, quantify their impacts when possible and devise policy alternatives that would benefit FirstEnergy and its customers.
- Constructively debating policy proposals with SME to resolve conflicting internal perspectives to reach agreement on the optimal position for the company.
- Preparing justification and rationale for the company's stated positions on policies for use by the company's lobbyists
- Working closely with regulatory and legislative experts to monitor and anticipate policy proposals that could affect the company and provide early warning to internal expert
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Business-related major, Political Science, Communications or Technical field is required
- Minimum of 7-10 years related work experience is required. Related work experience includes external affairs, regulatory policy, research, and general business analytics
- Experience with utility regulation is a plus
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Experience with legislative activities and public policy advocacy preferred
- Good business acumen - understanding of general business principles and decision-making
- Able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Able to work across the organization and establish relationships
